Hi everyone! I've been a vegan since Feb '01 (meatless since July '92). I'm divorced with two kids, one grown up daughter and a son who currently lives with me M-F here in the Sacramento CA area. He's in 7th grade and I homeschool him.
I'm a semi-retired English teacher. The work I still do is online, which is great for the freedom it affords me. I've done a lot of different kinds of teaching, and I've loved it all. It's made me a believer that some people really do have a calling in life. I'm finishing up a Master's so that I can teach online college classes; I might even go teach abroad. Mainly the MA will create more possibilities for me, which is always nice.
I have some pretty creative hobbies and have even made some money at them over the years, having actually gotten paid for things like photography, illustration, copywriting, and teaching/writing/recording/performing music. I also really love science, birds, literature, and vegan cooking. I also like to excercise, although I can't right now because of an injury.
I was really involved in martial arts when I was younger, and that led me to Eastern ways of thinking, eventually turning me into something of a Buddhist. I don't go in for any supernatural/magical thinking, but Buddhism is great because it doesn't ask one to believe in anything like that. It's actually quite scientific, in its way, which is why I like it. Meditation and Buddhist psychology have been really great influences in my life, and I've also gotten to be good friends with the monks at the temple my son and I sometimes visit.
The house I live in is being sold, and I'm really seriously considering turning this into an opportunity to make a big move. I've lived in Sacramento almost all my life, and I think it would be fun to relocate. My work doesn't tie me to any one place, and I'm pretty good financially right now, so the time seems right. My son might not come with me, since his mom and sister are here, but that's what FaceTime is for, right? I'm thinking of drastically downsizing and simplifying-- I really should, and I've been wanting to for a long time.
I should mention that nothing on TV interests me and I never watch it. I'm not interested in politics either. Also, I don't believe in things like astrology or ghosts or heaven/hell, and I'm afraid I probably wouldn't be a very good partner for anyone who does.
