I spent my early childhood in New York (more precisely, Long Island), but my teen years were in eastern Florida.  Since I disliked the heat, I’m happy here in Chicagoland.  Plus I get to see all four seasons, various types of trees, and even some hills.  I even like the cold, since it’s a good excuse to dress comfy and snuggle in front of the TV.

I have two adult sons, both of whom live in Chicago.  But I’m not alone; I live with two cats.  It’s a bit strange since I’m just crazy about dogs and their joyous energy, but my cats are pretty cool, too.  Both were strays that I trapped for a trap-neuter-return program, but their purrs and fondness for human affection made it clear they weren’t truly feral.  So now I serve them.  And I named them after gods that fit their history and personality:  Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and protection, and Odin, the Norse god of poetry.  (He’s super vocal.)

I’m pretty fortunate with my career since pretty much each day I get to promote what I value:  critical thinking, seeking truth, being compassionate and fair, and making a difference.  It’s rewarding to help someone open their mind and improve their life.

When I’m not working, I enjoy w
alking in forest preserves, especially when I get to see wildlife.  Or sifting through items in a thrift store (or flea market, or used bookstore), not usually as a hunt for something specific, but in anticipation for finding something amazing.  When relaxing at home, I tend to watch a good TV show, read a book, sometimes work on a jigsaw puzzle.  But I’m also game for road trips, exploring new places, going to museums . . .

At core I still have a childlike sense of curiosity and playfulness – and I’m looking for the same in a partner.  Someone with a deep sense of kindness and a willingness to change their mind based on new information.  I value honesty, emotional openness, supportiveness, and a desire to work through issues via communication and compromise.  I also care about being fit and healthy, so I have a commitment to exercise and eating well.

To clarify my selection for 'Religion':  I'm an atheistic Buddhist
in the sense that I embrace the ideas and ethics, but not in the sense that I make devotional offerings to a Buddha altar.

Some favorite movies and TV shows:
A Few Good Men, Tombstone, His Girl Friday; The West Wing, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, The Good Place, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Some other favorite things:
- ducks (and other animals that waddle, like penguins, tortoises, and fluffy hens)
- woodland creatures (skunks, opossums, cardinals . . .)
- succulents, sunflowers, and mushrooms (in the wild, not as food)
- pasta (especially ravioli and cavatappi)
- the color blue (like with a blue sky, or the pastel blue you see at Easter)

If you believe your best days are still ahead of you, so do I
:)

In no particular order:

I'm vegan, an activist, and social justice supporter. Being behind the scenes or being up front, whether it's leafletting, PPV, VR, protests, vigils. I'm most passionate about suffering and injustice, connecting and working together with those who are like-minded... and hopefully change the hearts and minds of those who are not. Actually not so much as changing their hearts, but helping them reconnect with their own. I'd like to believe that we all started out with a vegan heart.

I stopped eating animals at 9 when I realized what meat actually was, and until about 10 years ago never understood...why me. Or rather, why only me. At that age. Without any outside influence. Why only me, among all the people I knew, my family, my friends, my neighborhood, school, church, why am I the only one who sees what I see, and just stops eating them. No fuss no muss. I don't think of myself as anything special. Or so different from everyone around me. Especially back then. And despite all my efforts trying to get them to see (I am not in any way militant), not one person made even the most miniscule change.
It was about 10 years ago that I went to see Melanie Joy (big fan of) give her original "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows" presentation and finally, FINALLY, understood why most people eat animals and why it is so hard for them to change. This may not be an exact quote, but something along the lines of
"Perhaps the greatest strength of the movement is that it speaks to core human values. The vast majority of people don’t want to see animals suffer, much less know that they participate in such suffering. In many ways, animal liberation is aligned with the deepest values held by most people, even though they may have not yet made the connection between their values and the rights of animals. Between the meat on their plate and the animal it came from."

I volunteer about 4 times a week packing food for children.

I participate in vegan potlucks, dine outs, picnics, board game nights, sanctuary visitsworkdays, and other fun stuff.

I love dogs, don't have any now but had 2 rescues at any given time 1996-2015. My last 2 were Penny (beagle Jack Russel) she was SUCH a nutball and Scout (lab dobe) she looked exTREMEly fierce yet was SO gentle, except when she felt Penny needed protection from another dog. Also 2 cats, Otis another nutball who thought he was just one of the dogs, and cute little Boo she liked to gnaw on the gingerbread house in the middle of the night, both rescues.

Friends, co-workers, And family tell me I am kind, loyal, calm, laid back, easy going, compassionate, welcoming, funny, analytical (though I sometimes get caught up in the details), gentle, understanding.

Saturday/Sunday mornings I enjoy the taste and aroma of fresh bagels and the texture and aroma of a fresh newspaper.

Grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Been here my whole life.
I prefer low key settings and calm to over-stimulating environments, though I do enjoy going to summer festivals, carnivals, live music, etc around the suburban area.

I enjoy eating out, casual bike riding---I am not what I would call a cyclist---walks, hackey sack, reading to each other, cuddling under a blanket watching dvds when the weather outside is frightful (or after dark). I enjoy being outside much of the time (preferably above 30° but under 85°) though I don't consider myself that much of an outdoorsy type and would literally not be a happy camper.

I LUV standup comedians particularly observational humor, and impressionists like Frank Caliendo, Jay Pharoh, and celebrities who do imitations of other celebrities make me laugh til I can't laugh any more.
Movies: comedy, drama, true stories, romcoms.
TV: The Office, Modern Family, Family Guy, BBC productions like Scott and Bailey, Doc Martin, Death in Paradise, Last Tango in Halifax.
Music: Elvis, Rock, Dance, R&B, Country except the twangy stuff, most genres except jazz, rap, metal.

Just bought an acoustic guitar (March 1st) and am starting to learn thru YouTube.

I'll be back to add more....

I thought my grad school essays were hard...here we go..I once wrote an award winning essay on Snoopy on how he's a Renaissance Man much like Leonardo Da Vinci. I know...you're thinking...what? Here's my logic...Snoopy was a dog whose best friend was a bird (Woodstock) and a human (Charlie Brown)... he's so likable that even other SPECIES can relate to him. He's a WWI flying ace, plays tennis at Wimbledon (I played there also in 2001..great story here...ask me about it!) drives a car and can speak French....he is one cool dude (or canine...whatever)! I guess I see a lot of me in Snoopy and Da Vinci! You still reading...;-)

I grew up in the Chicagoland area so have solid Midwestern values with a global perspective. Have traveled far and wide (seen 30 countries and counting). I'm hard working, ambitious and generous. I am financially secure and invest wisely. Very in tune with my intuition and have a soft touch. ;-) The foundation of a great relationship is communication. Both looks and money can be fleeting but it’s the emotional connection you make with someone that sustains you. Authenticity plus Vulnerability = Connection. Active listening is the key. Conversational turn-taking, interpersonal trust and mutual respect. If we were in a relationship, I would give you a foot massage every night! Yup, that's right. I know you work hard and a massage with some candles and soft music help you to relax. You're happy; then we're all happy! ;-) I want to get off this site and find a loving partner where we have a lot of FUN and take great care of each other. ME (quick overview...I know you're busy ;-) * Dependable, emotionally available, rock solid guy * Self-aware: High EQ. I put a lot of emphasis on emotional intelligence...more than IQ * Myers-Briggs Test: I am an ENTJ * Renaissance Man: love math, science and the arts. * Travel is a wonderful way to learn. Have an adventurous spirit--like Indiana Jones! * Compassionate lifestyle: vegan-ish, kindness to people, animals and the planet. I was a Boy scout--I help old ladies cross the road ;-) * Charity work: Volunteer at animal shelters, asked to speak at HS, Universities regarding interfaith dialogue and sustainability. I even met H.H Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela. * Love playing tennis * Innovator: love technology and watch the latest trends..think Tesla, nanotechnology, Space travel...who know, maybe time travel someday. "Beam me up Scotty"...lol) * Healthy in mind, body and soul (Want to have a green smoothie and do some yoga with me?) * More Timex than Rolex (My smile may be golden, but I'm also pragmatic and reliable ;-)

raighne, a Almost veg in Chicago raighne

Artist. I cackle like a witch. Love sun on my skin, books, zines.

I was vegetarian for 2 years, vegan for 15 years. My life fell apart for a time. Rebuilding once again. Thinking of becoming veggie once again.

Just seeing what's out here...

There is this passage I like a lot from a Sontag biography:

"If I said because she was the love of my life, would you get any more information? She was the person I loved the most profound. Right now my eyes begin to tear. And this is now a hundred and fifty-five years later. So do you want to still ask why sooner or later I start talking about Susan? And Why is someone the love of your life? That is a mystery. That's magic cannot be explained. And it's real as this table, and you cannot say it's because of this, you cannot analyze it. Because it is.... When you fall in love with a person it is not logical. What I think I'm actually being, if I have a lot of freedom or trust in the person, I would say I think it has to do with something in a person's system that is almost like chemical, that has a need, like you got to the doctor, you feel weak, and the doctor takes a blood test, they analyze it, and so they figure out that you need vitamin C or vitamin B, and also drink as much milk as you can, and it has to do with a balance of certain chemicals in the system, and certain, because people would say, why are you so completely, through the years, even after we broke up, in love with her? And I would say, you know why I was in love with her? Because I was!" —María Irene Fornés discussing Susan Sontag. Taken from 'SONTAG' by Benjamin Moser

I love my life!!! I live in the City of Chicago, spend my summers in central Wisconsin, and my winters on the west coast of Florida. I love all living creatures and will even let flies out of the house rather than swat them, although I have killed mosquitoes. My favorite animals are pigs and manatees. Some of the favorite musicals I have seen are Hamilton, Wicked, and Phantom of the Opera. My political viewpoint is liberal, although we really don't have much individual power. I've been a vegetarian for 45+ years and eat healthy most of the time. I'm self reflective and sometimes too much in my head. I have a computer science degree, was a COBOL programmer and a computer room manager for the telephone company. I invested in income real estate and was fortunate to retire at age 36 and have been retired for 31 years. My 89 year old parents are still a big part of my life, as are my brother, sister-in-law, and their 2 children. I have several good friends. My taste in music ranges from The Beatles to Ed Sheeran to Pink to Rob Thomas, really not much of a fan of music from the late 20 years. My favorite book of all time is Illusions by Richard Bach. Some of my favorite movies are When Harry Met Sally, Groundhog Day, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Sleepless in Seattle. I'm a sports fan, my teams are the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls, although it's hard to watch the White Sox right now. I enjoy watching Real Time With Bill Maher and Jeopardy. I am a member of several trivia teams. I enjoy taking people for pontoon boat rides on the lakes by our family cottage. I studied to be a Life Coach, but never actually did it. Oh yeah, one more thing, I was born with a congenital condition called Arthrogryposis. That's a mouthful. LOL It's not a condition that gets worse with age, but truth be told, most things don't get better with age, aside from maybe wine and cheese. I walk with the aid of crutches and long leg braces. My wrists are bent, I do need help dressing and undressing, and do not drive a car. I do not let my disability define me.

Friendship, Romance, Passion. There's more to it than that, but you get the idea. So what brings me to this web site? Probably the same things that brought you here. Once we are a few years out of school, the usual ways of meeting people become less usual, and the odds of meeting compatible people drop off quickly. I am honest and sincere, emotionally balanced, and financially stable. I enjoy good conversation and evenings out at dinner and the theater. I read more than I watch TV, exercise regularly (but am not a fanatic about it), and enjoy being outdoors in both summer and winter. I'm an amateur stargazer, I practice yoga, and I do NOT spend my weekends and evenings watching sports on TV. My spiritual outlook is Eastern (i.e., India and Tibet, not New York and Boston), my political outlook is left of center, and my sense of humor tends toward British comedy (esp. Monty Python and Blackadder). In brief, my life is good. But it would be better if shared with a woman who values friendship, romance, and passion.

ChefAdam, a Vegan in River Forest ChefAdam

In love and life, humor is my favorite ingredient. If we have chemistry we will laugh a lot, if we don't, we will laugh a little. If we don't laugh at all, we have problems. Tongue Out

I'm into integrity and being fullfilled. I'm a mission driven entreprenuer whose mission is to share the benefits and blessings of a raw plant based diet. That's not to say that I don't enjoy a cooked vegan meal every now and then... the options are so amazing. Grilled cheeze is one of my favorite vices, though infrequent. More frequently I polish off a pint of vegan ice cream in one sitting. Don't worry, if you're with me, I'll share. :D

I'm a jack of many trades and a master of some. I've been known to fix my own car even in instances where I'm way out of my depth. Trust, curiosity and blind faith get me through. Youtube videos help as well. One day you may let me destroy... I mean repair your car, bike or blender.

I love telling travel stories. I've had some great adventures and would love to have more. I dive, rock climb, camp, hike, bike, bush whack (that is stumble off trail into the wilderness and return home safely by the grace of God). I believe in a higher power, guiding force, alchemy, synchronicity, unicorns and vermicious knids. There's more I could share but that's enough for now...

One of my current passions is growing medicinal herbs/teas. Butterfly pea and holy basil are 2 of my favorites. Reach out and I'll send you some homegrown tea to try.

Kim, a Raw food in Naperville Kim
is a 42 year old, Christian female.
Living in Naperville, Illinois
Raw food diet.

I am dedicated to those I love, know what I want and am passionate about what I do. I do not do drama!

I enjoy the simple things in life, find laughter and silliness essential, and enjoy learning. I like trying new things and can find joy in most anything I choose to do. I am minimalistic and love anything outdoors. Gardening and nature are a large part of my life. I believe on relying and living off the land as much as possible, especially in the current state of the world. I love adventure but I can be just as happy at home with my kids.

I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years and now working towards being a raw vegan. These choices were originally made for moral reasons, further strengthened by learning the health benefits, and now unwavering firm for spiritual reasons as to why one must not only not hurt the least of creation, but certainly not cause something pain and death for my own lustful pleasure.

I am a believer and follower of The Way, which impacts nearly everything I do. Do you know the bible supports a vegetarian diet and Messiah (Jesus) taught compassion towards animals?

I also enjoy working out, psychology, intelligent conversation, reading, music, dancing, mountain biking, backpacking, camping, volunteering, exploring, planting seeds, and challenging my own mind. I enjoy helping people become better versions of themselves.

Maka, a Vegan in Carbondale Maka

Vegan diet.

I am software tester. I love sci-fi and fantasy, attending geeky conventions, occasionally cosplaying, sometimes gaming, practicing American Sign Language, perusing bookstores, drumming, poi spinning, tinkering with my musical instrument collection, scoping out thrift stores, camping, Hawaiian culture, trying out new vegan restaurants, and of course, spending time with my animal companions, family and friends.  Though I miss my childhood home of Kaua'i, and I miss the pacific northwest, I love living here in Southern Illinois where I am near so much of my family. I have been an ethical vegan since 2013 and it is a very important part of my life. I have three "kids", all three grown. I'd love to hop in an RV and be a vagabond for months at a time. I've been to 47 states, and 3 countries (Bahamas, Canada and Mexico), but dream of traveling more. Looking up at the night sky is a spiritual experience for me, I cry watching the evening news, and laugh at unusual things. I am atheist and follow the pagan wheel of the year.

I am a little shy in person but warm up quickly once I get to know you a little. It will take a very special person to win my trust and love, could that be you? If you like the idea of making a new friend, but are truly hoping for something much more, I want to learn more about you. Perhaps we'll end up being great friends, perhaps we won't click at all, but wouldn't it be wonderful if we discover that we are each other's missing piece? Let's find out, message me!

Where to begin, there is more to me than just a few short paragraphs can tell.   It is hard to tell you about my inner self other than to say I know the value of life.    I know all animals have interests and can be benefited or harmed.    I have a hard time watching a movie when an animal is harmed even if it fictional.    Overall, I cannot help but give a handout to animal that comes to my door with a bowl in his paws.

A little bit more about me is that I became a vegetarian for ethical reasons.  In addition to believing in animal rights, I am very interested in history.  My favorite topic would be biographies on some people I admire.    I enjoy playing with my dogs and watching documentaries.     I find most everything interesting so I am rarely bored.

Romantic, kind, and gentle guy with a virtually endless variety of interests. I'd like a partner to help me explore the world, and to build a lasting, loving, and supportive relationship. I am able to move almost anywhere to spend life with my twin flame.

Easy-going, witty, patient, loving, compassionate, non-judgmental, and a good & loyal friend. I am very open and emotionally available; some would say evolved. My attitudes and behaviors are very positive, light hearted, and consistent. I will never let go of your hand or stop hugging you. I believe that common values are more important than common interests, and that simple pleasures are the best.

Some of my interests: travel, kayaking, biking, hiking, swimming, keeping fit & healthy, yoga, beaches, mountains, volunteer work, biographies, classical music, NPR, continued learning, word games, writing Haiku, American Southwest, French language & culture, contra dancing, museums, fine art, foreign cinema, and romance in any form. Animal rights supporter and member of many vegetarian/vegan/raw groups.

Thirty-seven years of a plant-based diet and a lifelong healthy lifestyle have blessed me with a body, mind and spirit far younger than my chronological age (except for accumulated wisdom, of course). My photos are about three years old, but I have not suffered any significant physical deterioration since they were taken.

I will reply to any signed message. Republicans need not apply.

I'm a kind, patient partner seeking someone to share life’s journey. I grew up in Wilmette, lived briefly in West Africa, attended grad school in St. Louis, started my career in New York City for 6 years, and then decided to build a life in Evanston to be closer to family. I currently work as a social worker at a nonprofit and enjoy helping a vulnerable population make positive life changes and heal. On the weekends I enjoy cooking new vegan dishes, riding my bike, playing tennis, spending time outdoors, capturing beautiful moments on my prehistoric iPhone ;-) I loved dancing flamenco for years and would like to pursue it again post-COVID. I don’t watch a lot of tv but tune into the Daily Show and PBS documentaries and also love listening to "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" on NPR. I have part-time custody of my two kids so I'm family oriented but also have a lot of free time to build the next chapter in my life.

I am a liberal and completely left in all social and political beliefs. I have a wide variety of interests. Writing. Drawing. Singing. Guitar. Hand Drums. Hiking, Bicycle riding. Kayaking. Swimming. Cooking. Reading. My ideal companion would also be someone who never finds themselves with a lack of things to do. I appreciate creativity in all it's forms.   I am warm, affectionate, enjoy cuddling and expressing affection with touch. I am playful. I am someone who others can rely on.  I  keep my promises. I can lead or I can follow. I can be soft. I can be hard. I am your lover. I am your best friend. I am devoted and honest.  And right now, I am lonely.

Enjoying life on this amazing planet and looking forward to exploring it more. I consider myself thoughtful, easy going and kind, a good listener, enjoy intelligent conversation and love to laugh. I'm an engineer, environmental and animal rights advocate, handyman and a news junkie. Love documentaries. Outdoor enthusiast, hiker, photographer and cyclist. I'm a bit of a science nerd. Interested in philosophy, consciousness, ecology, earth science and history. Passionate, compassionate and sometimes a bit overwhelmed by all that needs to be done in this world. I grew up on a farm in Illinois but have been an urban dweller for the past 25 years. I spent several years working as an engineer and now have my own independent environmental consulting practice. My work provides me with a good degree of financial independence and a flexible schedule. One of my newer passions is sailing. I've joined a sailing club here in Chicago and volunteer teaching new sailors. My dream is to one day sail around the Mediterranean. I enjoy traveling, hiking through the mountains, and visiting other cultures. I'd love to have a partner that wants to travel with me - South America, Africa, India, Europe; to far-flung places in the world. I don't want to do it alone!

I have brown hair, hazel eyes, and am a Jewish female who has been vegetarian for over 30 years. I am petite, athletic, compassionate, "cute and perky" (so I'm told), funny, and fun to be with! I believe that life is too short to let it pass us by, so I try to spend every minute of my life doing something worthwhile and meaningful (to me, anyway). I love my family, friends, and obviously all animals. Don't even get me started on the inhumanity of the food chain! (One of the reasons I'm not terribly religious--I think the food chain is one of the most disgusting, violent creations...)

Just looking to connect with like minded individuals. Don't have as much opportunity to meet new ppl in my daily life as I'd like to. Figured I'd try here and see what happens. Open mind and little expectation. I'm a yoga teacher and I occasionally nanny for kids. If you are thinking of it, just reach out. No harm done : )

Exercise just to exercise is not my gig unless it is disguised as fun (ie volleyball, hiking, swimming, walking my dogs, rollerblading, etc) I love to explore, travel, try new things, learn new things, and DANCE. Love love love to dance. I am artsy, can draw and paint but haven't in way too long. I try to be kind always. I like to be spontaneous..

Have you felt the need to reach outside the box? Maybe just phone text with a person on the same page a bit challenging lately? It would be outstanding to have communication and friendship with a person who is different (to keep it interesting) yet likeminded. I am a slender in shape white (German/Engish) 5'9" dude. Western burbs of Chicago, repair vintage electronics, own pit bull rescue dogs (who all are on a vegetarian diet), DJ part time at a club in Chicago. Still have an analog 24 track recording studio. Recorded a lot of house dance music hits with artists over the years. Over 20,000 promo vinyl records in my house that record companies have sent over the years. Not religious or spiritual and do not like to travel. Years off I plan to move to a state with a warmer climate. Now anchored in Illinois with some family, a six bedroom house and a ton of old electronics (mostly vintage televisions). I am open minded on lots of topics and you should be too.  I live with a person who is not vegetarian however a good person. I am not vegetarian for any health reasons, just for basic animal rights. Life is short. Send a message if dare is to improve and expand your circle with a like minded person.

I'm a southern gentleman who is looking to enjoy what life has to offer. I would like to go exploring the Midwest, while also enjoying the local festivities in the surrounding areas in Madison and Chicago.
I love going to the Farmers' Market on the weekend. Especially when the sun is shinning. I love cooking! And I strive to try out new recipes throughout the year. So be prepared to have your taste buds rocked.

A few years back I went through a health phase in my life, which led me to trying to improve my diet. It eventually evolved to my current plant-based life-style (>6 years), which I enjoy. I like it when my grocery store has something new for me to try.
I like sci-fy, and how it opens up the mind to thinking outside the box. I'm also a big fan of the classic video games, and I would take a Mario game over the latest Call of Duty game.

My name is Robert.  I have three professions; I estimate construction and save tax payers hard earned dollars, I'm a professional photographer and I'm a Reiki Master Teacher. I love all the work that I do for its very rewarding.

I shoot Photograhy for some not for profit groups gratis as this is my way of giving back to the community.

The Reiki that I do is also very amazing. I work with all your chakras placing crystals on them. Reiki relieves stress and if stress can be eliminated..this allows the body to heal.

My lifestyle is very easy going. I love life and do my best to live it to the fullest everyday. I've been eating a plant based vegan diet for the past 23 years and was raised a vegetarian.

I'm a very down to earth person who loves life.

I'm vegan for ethical, environmental, and health reasons. I'm passionate about nonhuman animal rights, feminism, and social and environmental justice. I'm very liberal and independent. People describe me as conscientious, compassionate, honest, reliable, creative, poetic, clever, nerdy, and sensitive.

I'm an editor. I love writing, reading, film, music, art, science, yoga, and nature. I studied Buddhism and I believe in karma, but I don't participate in organized religion. I'm striving to be fit: I go for walks/hikes and/or practice yoga several days a week.

Privacy is important to me (which I blame on my INFJ personality type ;)). I'm happy to send some more pics if you would like. I wear glasses. I have blue-grey eyes and medium-length, naturally blond hair of the dishwater variety. :P

I love surrounding myself with positive people. I feel the ingredient to success in life is to be around the right crowd. I am always optimistic, and like to make others smile and laugh. I can be talkative but also a great listener. I live and work in downtown Chicago. I like living in the city, there so many activities to engage yourself in. I am always working hard, trying to be a professional in my occupation. On the weekends and weeknights, I like going out for coffee with friends, maybe watch a movie, and check out the nightlife. I live by the motto, "time is scarce", so you have to make the most of it, or else time will pass you by.
