Raw food diet.
I do strenuous and vigorous exercise in each of at least three days a week: my workouts include at least three sets of each of at least eight weight-lifting exercises, my doing several stretches, running three miles, and walking four.
I've been total vegetarian for more than 28 years; life member of The American Vegan Society and of the Vegetarian Society of Colorado; my raw-foods vegan diet is mostly a result of my attending their convention in Boulder, Colorado, in 1998, and my hearing there and reading words of H. Jay Dinshah and several vegan physicians, authors, and scholars.
I exclude all animal products from diet; I never wear silk, wool, or leather, and avoid them almost entirely elsewhere. I have compassion for almost all sentient creatures, especially those with central nervous systems, clear proof to my mind that they can experience misery and feel pain; I desire not to be a cause of pain, misery, suffering, or violence to anyone.
Cooking destroys vitamins and enzymes, and entails needless use of resources to produce heat: raw foods can easily be sanitized with vinegar: soaking carrots, yams, turnips, and the like, for 10 seconds, and spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, and the like, for 30 seconds, in a solution of three parts water with one part vinegar leaves them 98% free of germs, including salmonella and other pathogens, as experimentally demonstrated at the University of Massachusetts.
My health is much improved and preserved by my drinking nothing besides distilled water and eating nothing but raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. I believe that people who judiciously and strictly follow such a diet and often do vigorous bodily exercise with minimal exposure to sunlight are least likely to contract such diseases as cancer, diabetes, and arteriosclerosis. "Exposure to sunlight is the most important cause of prematurely aging skin (a process called photoaging) and skin cancers . . . ." says umm.edu, a highly authoritative and reputable website.
I approve and accept amost every reason I've ever seen or heard for anyone's being vegetarian. I respect the rights and beliefs of others to live in ways that they think right, and I'm adaptable to beliefs, opinions, desires, preferences, and lifestyles unlike my own. But I'm unlikely to deviate from such a total vegetarian raw-foods diet as the one I've so firmly committed myself to for so many years.

I first became a vegan because I started developing an awareness that animals had consciousness and feelings. Then I read a book called "Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating" and realized all the health and environmental benefits of going vegan.
I'm also a very spiritual person. In a way, I believe I've been questing to learn the truth my whole life, I just didn't realize it at the time. I tried a variety of Christian churches, studied some shamanism, a Sikh friend in graduate school introduced me to Indian spiritual traditions, etc. I even went backpacking through Asia on what I refer to as my quest for englightenment. They say when the student is ready, the teacher appears, because when I returned home, I found a meditation teacher who taught me sound and light meditation, and I finally found the path that is right for me.
I'm very concerned about the impact livestock have on the envirnoment, and helped found a non-profit / NGO that has done presentations to the British members of Parliament to encourage more vegan eating.
After going vegan, I worked with doctor of Oriental medicine to help me cope with some health issues, and am quite passionate about using diet to reverse disease.
I love the out of doors and enjoy hiking, and doing just about anything in the sunshine. I also really enjoy doing yoga.
Growing up, I lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, California, London, Norway and Colorado. As an adult, I've lived in Scotland, Washington DC, Virginia, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley. Now I am staying near my family in rural Wyoming, but I come to Salt Lake fairly frequently.
