I made the choice to eat a vegetarian diet back in the late ‘80s for environmental (water conservation) reasons, transitioned to a near-vegan diet for animal welfare reasons and a full vegan diet for animal rights in the mid-90s. I’m finishing a doctorate this summer and joining the faculty of a liberal arts institution in the greater Philadelphia area in August. I also seek a yoga community and a return to the outdoor pursuits that formed my deep interest in nature so many years ago. I like to philosophize, ponder, and muse. That is why I now consider myself an agnostic. It seems to me that religions cannot prove the existence of God, (especially, that He is an older man with a long, white beard) and atheists cannot disprove it. (I was raised a Catholic.)

I am in good physical health and I contribute it to my diet. My blood relatives take painkillers, too many, too often, but, in their eyes, I'm the odd one. I exercise (walking, weights, yoga).

I don't push my lifestyle on anyone, but I'm often met with its opposition. I would like to meet someone of similar beliefs so I would not need constantly justify my position on this issue. I need a friend.

I've been vegan since 1997 and am devoted to the animals in my life (in other words, I’m a bleeding heart, and how’d there get to be so many?). Friends describe me as sincere (okay, I come off as a bit serious, but I lighten up as I get to know people, honest). I’m also loyal and reliable.

I’m an old soul and introvert (the poster child, in fact) and really like being at home, but I enjoy time out with friends and family, especially having a conversation over a long meal or playing games. I also like to spend time outdoors admiring nature (except when I’m being a winter wimp).

I adore stories and storytelling and am a lifelong bookworm (I always enter a library with a feeling of happy anticipation).

Laughter is good.

I’m politically liberal, well-educated, and self-employed. I live very simply and am not a material girl. Life in the fast lane is not for me.

I’m an unlikely traveler because I'm responsible for so many animals right now, but I enjoy daytrips and investigating new places without a strict itinerary.

Some things on my to-do list: learn about wild edibles, try growing microgreens (ideally, grow more of my own food in general), spend more time watching the birds, try nature photography, and attend a big storytelling festival.

One of my principles is to "do no harm," but I'm not involved in medicine. I simply try to make choices that don't hurt the animals, the earth, or other people. And as I watch my fellow humans going about their lives as best they can, I try to look at them always with loving eyes.

I am lucky. I have good friends and good health. I’m retired with time to pursue activities I like. I’m fairly independent and enjoy a healthy balance of being with others and spending time alone. Walking, doing yoga, and dancing keep me in pretty good shape. I spend many hours “puttering” around in my Mt. Airy row house. Two sweet elderly cats share my peaceful home; I can’t imagine life without a cat or dog. Sharing a home-cooked meal (do you cook?) trumps eating out at a fancy restaurant any time. My best vacation ever was a biking and camping trip in Maine.

I strive for simplicity and living with less. I respect and enjoy nature and especially like walking on local wooded trails. I recycle and compost. Whenever possible I buy what I need in thrift stores and at yard sales – another way to recycle, and it’s fun! I try to live my life in a way that does not harm other living creatures – people, animals, and most insects included (fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes – look out!). I’ve been a vegan for many years.

I have been vegetarian for close to twenty years but am leaning toward vegan lately after attending Vegetarian Summerfest in Johnstown, Pa. a few years ago which I highly recommend to all vegetarians. There I met Melanie Joy, PhD and got her book and I also read Diet for a New America by John Robbins. These two books convinced me to go vegan, which I was considering anyway. For me, it is for all the right reasons: moral and ethical issues of animal rights and prevention of cruelty, ecological and environmental reasons, personal health, and above all, the issues of world hunger and world starvation, which we don't see a lot of in this country. Just because we don't see it here certainly doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I live and work in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area and I am also a part-time musician there.

I'm heading towards a vegan diet. This is a new transition for me, from vegetarianism. I still eat honey, and occasionally find things in my pantry containing dairy or eggs. I won't give up my old wool sweaters and coats, but I don't plan on buying new ones.

I work at an animal shelter. I have three old dogs, three cats, and a guinea pig. They come first in my life. It's not a lie to say they keep me alive.

I live in a pop culture vacuum, and I like it that way. I don't watch television. I like movies with subtitles and/or puppets. My musical tastes fall anywhere from punk to folk, with a little jazz and non-opera classical thrown in. I will never have too many books. I follow current events, and get involved when I can. If activism annoys you, I probably will as well. Green and red are my favorite political colors.

I love the outdoors, but my body doesn't allow me to be as active as I'd like. Walking and yoga are more my speed. (Which can be slow.) I like watching things grow in the spring and die in the fall. I allow spiders to live in my basement, but am trying to figure out a relocation plan for the ants right outside my backdoor.

Living in the country is too distant for me, although I love to spend time there. I like people at times (or some people all the time) and art and music and walking on pavement, when I decide to wear shoes.

I love to laugh, even if it is just at the insanity of the world. I believe in non-violence, but anger can be a catalyst for change. Positive thoughts aren't the only thing that changes the world. Sometimes love can come from hurt. I am passionate about things that matter, and sometimes about things that don't.

I love animals and that led me to become vegetarian at the age of nine. At nineteen, the hypocrisy that continued to exist, based on my reasoning for being vegetarian but my continued consumption of animal bi-products, hit home; I have been vegan since then. I have considered myself an artist, who's primary medium has been photography (I know, in wet-lab form, this is not vegan, which is very hard for me to get over, but they no longer make gelatin-free films, and I cannot seem to get 'on board' with the mechanized digital option - I crave the hands-on element of creation). My end goal was always (since my senior year at Penn State) to become a photography instructor at the collegiate/university level, to which end I pursued my masters degree. Now, I have the degree (along with the debt it incurred), but the field has gone so single-mindedly into digital, that I am searching for a new career path. Currently, I create the graphics used to manufacture medical procedure kits...so, there is a camera involved, and it is hands-on work, so I don't hate going to work every day.....but, I still yearn for that university environment!

My friends bother me about not eating meat, asking "Aren't you starving", "How do you live without eating meat" and "Where do you get your protein". I do like to cook, I stole all of my mom's recipes and instead of using meat I cook it with tofu or bocca. I'm shy but can be a lot of fun once I get to know you. When I was about 17 I started getting into the vegetarian lifestyle. There are many reasons why I don't eat meat. I'm really glad this site is here. I feel very strongly about animal suffering and believe that in life we should always strive to minimize suffering as much as we can. Since I signed up for this site quite some time ago I must be honest that I've slipped a bit with my diet but my thoughts and feelings are still the same and I plan on improving my habits once again.

I had some soul searching to do for awhile but now I feel I am once again at a place in my life where I'd like to start dating again. I want someone with similar ideals. Too often I've dated people who were not really compatible. I don't want to change anyone and I know no one wants to be changed. I'd like on the other hand to find someone I could learn from, grow with, become better together. This is why I am here.

Some things about me. I own a townhouse about 20 minutes outside the city but spend much of my free/social time in the city. I like being able to enjoy the city but when I'm done having a quiet place outside of it to return to.

I work at a car dealership and I DJ part time. I play mainly House music. I also intern for The Young Turks which is an online news and entertainment show. Currently I am also wrapping up the last couple classes I need for college. I have a pretty tight schedule right now but I don't mind it. I still find time to have fun.

When the weather breaks I'll look forward to getting back out on my bike. Cycling, not motorcycle to be clear. I rarely get to go kayaking but I always want to. Would be more fun if I had someone to do it with.

I'm a dad of a 3-year old son and two children who are in college. I'm a politically active vegetarian with compassion for animals and those less fortunate. I look and feel much younger than my 46 years. I enjoy the outdoors: love the beach, the mountains, or just walking my dog in the woods behind my house. Family outings are important, but I also enjoy dining out and having drinks when I don't have my son. I'm very adventurous, and enjoy excursions to remote scenic locations. Although I enjoy a variety of music, my car radio dial rarely moves from 88.7 XPN. And Radio Paradise (www.radioparadise) is often streaming through my home speakers. I've found no other internet station that has a better mix of alternative, classic rock, oldies, jazz, and electronica. My favorite band is Radiohead.

After being diagnosed with metastacized ovarian cancer in 2002, I declined chemotherapy and trusted a macrobiotic diet to help heal my cancer. Since then, I have been living a vegetarian lifestyle though my exhusband was not as enthusiastic thus....here I am. Everything has led me to this, is amazing because I really did like eating meat but now for the sake of health and feeling good I am eating about 75% raw and enjoying and prefering it. My journey in this direction started with helping a friend with colon cancer do the Gerson therapy (Juicing 12 times a day and a diet of organic veggies and fruits and a little yogurt for protein) I have been diagnosed as diabetic and hope to reverse that condition by eating raw. I feel great and more alive on this kind of diet and have my hope back after a long depression. I feel like a kid again and want to have fun again. Am considering mountain biking but need to work my way back into that. I am a bit eccentric, lived in an RV for 4 yrs as I have done my best to check out of being trapped in 1 place. So I like to travel and have been accused of being a rolling stone. Have been in some interesting places. Both physically and spiritually.
