Hi. I'm Neil. Rock climbing and the outdoors are big things for me. They don't have to be for you. I'm also a vegetarian and have been for most of my life (not the crazy vegetarian type). I aim to be 100% plant based in my diet, but haven't gotten there yet.

I'm not a native east-coaster either. I grew up in Utah. So yes, I was a Mormon for a time, but that was from the ages of 10-12 or something like that. I left home (Utah) right after high school and lived in Colorado for about five years before moving to NJ.

Other interests of mine include alternative housing/green structures like cob building, straw bale, tiny homes, storage container homes, etc. I helped build a home from the hole in the ground up with polysteel a few years ago and it was an awesome experience. I like to cook and garden as well. Permaculture is another fascinating thing to me. I love to read about sustainable garden (and community) design.

Hmmm...trying to think of a good opening line here...It was the best of times. It was the worst...eh, forget it. I live in an apartment which I share with 2 cats and, although I enjoy their company, a little human companionship would be nice. I have a 9-to-5 desk job which pays the bills. I'm what is commonly referred to as a "professional" though I don't like that term. I always thought that was an adjective rather than a noun. But I digress....I've been told (and who am I to argue) that I'm kind, easy going and have a great sense of humor. I love to cook and watch classic movies and listen to music. Other things I enjoy are drawing/sketching, hiking, playing the piano, and reading. I want to be in love again, to be in a relationship that's fun and positive, for love energy to flow, and then it be natural to care for each other. I do not want to have to "work" on the relationship. (Work is number crunching, or scrubbing and cleaning...) Nor do I want to "build" a relationship. I'm much too delicate for construction work. Think real, not contrived! When problems arise, we can solve them together. If there has to be this tremendous effort to keep the relationship going, I will probably lose interest. I do not want to use psychology to "snag" a man. I do not want to second guess myself during those first dates for fear of making one of those crucial mistakes. I want to feel comfortable to be myself. I do not want to be worshiped as a goddess. It's an awful lot of pressure to be expected to be a Supreme Being on top of everything else that I do. I do not want to have my man eating out of the palm of my hand. If I want a creature that eats from my hand, I will get a dog. Simply put, I enjoy being a nice person. Really! I believe in being kind to others and try my best to "do the right thing". Though I consider myself to be a very spiritual person, I am not by any means "religious" and do not subscribe to man-made religion. Because of this, if religion plays a big part in your life, we would most likely not be a good fit. I also judge people by their actions, and not by their ethnicity/skin color/sexual preference, etc., so if you have any "issues" with other races/religions/etc., we would also not be a good fit.

I'm looking for a partner in life and love, someone I can share life with, enjoy spending time with, and someone with whom I can have a deep connection with. I have been a vegetarian since the age of 12 and it was a life changing decision for me.... a true epiphany. Hi, I like to think I'm interesting because I'm interested in almost everything. I read a set of encyclopedia when I was twelve and spent roughly the next ten years devouring books at about 5/week. As an undergraduate I was actively recruited by the most highly funded physics professor at U of F, Dr. Crouch. I declined and instead went on to do my masters thesis in philosophy on Carl Jung. After that I spent several years as a carpenter building homes. Then I went into diagnostic medical ultrasound where I was awarded four specialty certifications. During my medical training I discovered a new form of motion called Omnidirectional Oscillation and developed and patented the gear which exhibits that motion as a way to perform 3-D ultrasound. I’ve seen much of the world and met and studied with numerous notable men and women including Swami Chidananda - the then head of the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy in Rishikesh, Stephen Gaskin – known for his work in communal organic farming and Jason Lotterhand – who facilitated the transfer of the Order of the Golden Dawn from England to the US where it was renamed The Builders of the Adytum. I’m a vegetarian because meat eating is unhealthy to the body and the planet and because it’s cruel to animals. I enjoy off road bicycling, skin diving, dancing, singing, building and inventing. Some of my more recent inventions include stair-climbing luggage, continuous loop dental floss and a flexible tape measure that doesn’t bend in the wind. It may sound like an odd thing to say but I like myself. I feel I need to say that because many people find my grasp of subjects they consider themselves to be authorities on, intimidating and are quick to show their dsipleasure at being upstaged. Those who are not overly egoistic find me helpful, engaging and entertaining. Every now and then I meet someone who absolutely makes my heart sing. Usually though it’s a mismatch either because of age differences or prior commitments. I’m hoping this time it will work out and we can ride off into the sunset together and live happily ever after, preferably in a custom home which I would like to build.

This is the hard part of online dating- writing your profile without sounding narcissistic, too perfect, or just plain cliche. So what can I say that hasn't been said before?

Here's my attempt:

Me: A listener as well as a talker. A person who will try (almost) anything once. A person with strong convictions. Low maintenance and not materialistic; I dislike greed and consumerism. I am laid-back and humble, but not a pushover. I have an offbeat sense of humor that is usually delivered in a very subtle manner. If you are the type who "gets it" you will always be amused. I like to think I am a level-headed person and believe I make good decisions in life. Generally an upbeat person, I try to avoid negative and sour people; they just drain the life out of you. I believe while in a relationship, we should each have time to ourselves; I don't think it's healthy to be around someone 24/7. I am into "green" and "cruelty-free" living, and also do volunteer work to help animals. Helping animals to me is a way of life, not just something I do casually. Finally, here is the "blah, blah, blah" part of the profile (see what I wrote above about sounding cliche)- I am honest, reliable, and loyal. Hi and thanks for taking a peek at my profile. Okay lets see if I can sum up who I am in these next few lines. I have a good sense of humor and like to make others giggle, but not in an annoying way (I'm not an attention seeker). I work in an office during the week so I have to keep my sense of humor - otherwise the monotony and buzz words alone would kill me. I enjoy running and teach spin classes on the weekends. I try to take care of myself so that I can stay away from the couch and TV and keep up with my 7 year old. I like all types of music,and listen to WXPN and NPR mostly (love Car Talk, You Bet Your Garden and Terry Gross!) I sing in a band and am lucky to be able to jam with such talented folks. In early 2009 I moved to Southern California (Huntington Beach) after spending almost 2 years in Ireland. Now I finally moved where I wanted to be. The East Coast. I am fairly new to the area and maybe you want to show me around? I just started flying. I always loved flying when traveling and one day I thought: "Why can't I fly myself?" So I did my extensive research and started the process of obtaining my Sport Pilot License. Didn't get very far just yet, because I just started. But I love it! Became vegetarian at age 13, which was definitely not easy in a Germany of the 80's. Been vegan now for a total of about 8 years.
