Hello! I am a proud pet owner of a 4 y/o Akita mix. I am living vegan as of the last year for a few reasons that I believe define me as a person. I have been vegan for the past 5 years and to me, it's my greatest accomplishment.

I am absolutely in love with the beach and could spend hours listening to the sound of the waves against the store, staring at the horizon, and feeling the breeze brush against my skin. I currently reside in the midwest, but have hopes of returning beachside within the next two years. I lived in florida for 3 years and miss it terribly.

The scent of fresh cut grass is top on my list along with the feel/fragrance in the air right before a rain storm hits.

I have traveled to the Bahamas twice, been to Vegas twice, and basked in the beauty of Northern Cali once. I absolutely love Yosemite National Park. Other than that, all of my vacations revolve around going back to Florida to visit with friends and hang out on the beach.

Hi there! First of all, if you don't love animals, skip on by, because we won't mesh! ;) If you love animals, and if you think love animals means to eat them or hunt them, wrong qualification...definitely skip on by...you have to actually have an affection for them...if you meet the first qualification, read on! I am new to all of this and still a bit skeptical, as I've heard all kinds of stories-good, as well as scary...I'm not getting any younger, and it's hard to meet people who are not boozing it up at the local bar nightly, so I figured I'd give this a shot! I really like to do all kinds of things-from traveling, to going to shows-theatre or movies, going to eat at a new spot or a favorite. I also like going to the beach, going for a stroll, or just hanging out at home, sitting on the deck, looking at the stars! One thing about me is that I am an animal lover, and because of this, I am also vegan now for over 3 years. It's hard to find others who share this decision here in the Midwest! I am not one of those crazy people, but I don't want animals to suffer just so I can eat something that's not good for me anyway! As far as music goes, I really like all kinds, though not really into the heavy rap degrading women-what's the point? At this point in my life, I was hoping I would be settled down with a family, and I was in a relationship before where I thought that would be the case, but clearly I am here, so it wasn't! Haha I like to laugh, and I like to be with friends and family. I am empathetic and caring, and would like to meet people who are the same. I am a sociology professor, and I also founded last spring and run a 501(c)(3) domestic and farmed animal sanctuary on my property in Heyworth. I love to cook -- it's probably my favorite way to spend a rainy or otherwise dreary Sunday afternoon. I also greatly enjoy listening to music while I'm cooking or doing pretty much anything else (almost all genres, but especially rock, smooth jazz, classical, and New Age). I am happiest, though, when I am outside. Spending a summer afternoon swimming in the stream on my property with my dogs gives me a lot of joy, as does running (I've run a couple of half-marathons and am toying with the idea of training for a full marathon), biking, kayaking, and doing just about anything else that gets me outside. I feel comfortable virtually anywhere I go, though I feel happiest in nature (especially the woods). I am politically and socially liberal. I am also a bit adventurous -- the most daring thing I've ever done was go skydiving. The people who impress me the most are those who have a cause other than themselves and act on it, rather than just talking a good game.

Once we are a few years out of school, the usual ways of meeting people become less usual, and the odds of meeting compatible people drop off quickly. I am honest and sincere, emotionally balanced, and financially stable. I enjoy good conversation and evenings out at dinner and the theater. I read more than I watch TV, exercise regularly (but am not a fanatic about it), and enjoy being outdoors in both summer and winter. I write poetry, which to my mind is anything that is 1 to 2 pages long, from humorous to dark and everything in between. Writing really frees my mind and makes a difficult experience (like unexpectedly landing in a car repair shop all day)into something rich and curious. I'm very serious and disciplined about it. However I DO have fun with it, taking it out into the mainstream writing pieces for benefits, art shows, literary affairs, or festivals of any kind. I'll wear costumes and make a play day of it! Poetry can be very isolating and dour stuff, so I like to bring it into the here and now,and not take myself so seriously. LIFE IS TOO SHORT! Not having lived vegan most of my life it has been a tough transition, but I'm now at the point I can call myself vegan and can't believe how few others there are around, so here I am. I like to stay active but this upper Midwestern winter thing is killing me, so I have been less so than I prefer as of late. I grew up on the west coast... well, Nevada, if that counts as a "coast," love the ocean, warm weather, beaches, compassionate thoughtful people, and free time, which I use however I want, to include doing nothing at all. Bird watching out of my apartment window can be the highlight of my day. It's hard to describe what it's like the first time you see a cardinal after growing up in the desert. I'm 37 and yes, still in school, graduate school, but still in no paycheck-ville nonetheless. I have two kids who live near me (I wouldn't be braving these Midwestern winters for just anyone), I am about to leave law school to enter a graduate program in psychology (don't go to law school, your soul will not survive the experience... this is not a joke-no, I mean that with absolute seriousness) and I just realized that I'm not going to come up with a conclusion that's too my liking, but I was an English minor in college so it's hard for me to stop writing... I am a bit of a gym rat as I love being in as good of shape as my schedule allows, but I keep in under 2 hours/day. I am vegan for "humanitarian" reasons, and I quote that only because humans aren't the most pleasant creatures around so saying humanitarian doesn't mean much. I don't believe in killing other sentient beings for my own personal enjoyment/pleasure/convenience... or even to save my own life. I haven't had the save my own life part tested yet, but I'd like to think I would pass, the rest has become second nature and I have developed a serious discomfort with those who think it's okay to kill whatever they want just because they can-I actually think that is about as good a definition of evil as I could come up with. Becoming vegan has basically re-defined my existence, almost all of it in a very positive way. I grew up in a ranching/hunting family so there are a few family members that won't even talk to me anymore, but in all honesty even if people like that are family I don't regret not having them in my life... to not understand veganism is to refuse to look into your own soul, and people like that are best kept at a distance. Beyond that I can't think of a single thing about becoming vegan that isn't positive... except giving up sushi, forgot about sushi-that has been tough. Whatever you do, say hello, I always love to hear from a fellow traveler of the vegan path.

I did the Warrior Dash this past June and fell in love with adventure/off-road races. I am doing another one next June and plan to do the Tough Mudder as well. I love hiking, the controlled forest preserve kind. I would like to go off the beaten path with a map and compass one day, but for now clearly defined paths with color markers will suffice.

I'd like to say I'm a pretty normal guy, but I guess nobody really is. I'm pretty artsy (artsy-fartsy as my family would say), sorta geeky (especially about cartoons and things with wheels) and love animals (I've got a guinea pig and a recently adopted dog). I bike a lot, for commuting and for fun, like to be out and about but have just as much fun walking around people watching as I do sitting in a restaurant or bar (as most veggies know, restaurant eating can be kinda troublesome). I used to travel a lot, but with my work and dog I don't get to as much. Been to a lot of places though, lived a lot of places.

I work in arts education, and in theatre, and sometimes, sorta, at a pizza place (work like, 2-3 shifts a month).

Been a veggie for about 11 years now, though I did do fish for the first couple of years. I still do some dairy, but don't keep it around the house.

I’ve been a vegetarian of one kind or another (unfortunately, the junk food kind lately) for 26 years, so I look younger than my age, and I’m in good medical condition. I don’t work out in a gym, but I try to get in 15 or 20 minutes of vigorous exercise several times a week. I enjoy long walks and bike rides when possible. I love dancing, but I’m way out of practice. I like cats more than dogs, but dogs don’t care about that and make me love them anyway when we’ve had them as pets. My political sympathies are decidedly liberal.

Among the careers I've pursued and jobs I've held are concert organist, naval aviator, ballroom dance instructor, systems analyst, corporate tax paralegal, security guard, office automation temp, regional tech support specialist, and over-the-road trucker. I've retired from full-time employment twice, but I'm still working part time in tech support for a highly respected college.

I don’t have a fat bank account or an investment portfolio. I live reasonably well on my part time earnings and my Social Security pension. I’m not interested in being supported by a spouse or anyone else. I can certainly support my partner if she doesn’t desire a lavish lifestyle and doesn't care much about seeing the world; otherwise, she will need resources of her own.

My wife/lover won't lose her freedom; she'll gain a devoted husband/lover who will encourage her to come and go freely and to be her own person. She won't have to be burdened by housework. I can clean house, wash and iron clothes, shop for groceries, cook (well, I'm improving) and wash dishes. And I NEVER leave the toilet seat up!

Some of my favorite things: Beautiful sunsets. A clear night sky in the country with so many more stars visible. Hiking through the woods. Driving around the country on two-lane highways to see the scenery and towns and people up close. Thunderstorms seen from the balcony of a high-rise (or a house on a hill). Reading a good book beside a crackling fireplace. Slow dancing to romantic music with lyrics you can actually understand. Holding hands in public. Romantic movies. Tear-jerkers. Wilderness canoe trips. Meeting old friends. Holiday get-togethers with family. Making people laugh. Hiding love notes for the woman I love to find and read. Making love (with emphasis on that last word).

Those who know me best have mentioned that I tend to have a fun, happy, inspiring, confident, unique and kind type of personality. I am always striving to be a better person. I live by that old saying, 'treat others the way you want to be treated.' I try my best to be a kind and generous person because I believe that if you are it will always comes back to you! I guess that's the karma in my optimistic type of mentality. Family is a huge part of my life and I don't know what I would do without them! I know a lot of peps probably say that but it's really true in my case. I'm really close to my brothers and sisters and they mean the world to me. I like to keep things simple with the modern and clean look in my style, personality, career and studies. Definitely laid back but have tons of energy at the same time.

I'm also an advocate of healthy living with a well balanced organic whole food plant based diet and active lifestyle. Most of the year I do eat a high raw plant based diet with the exception of the winter where I will eat some steamed veggies to keep warm... I am definitly a non-smoker, honestly don't really drink and don't do drugs of any sort. I tend to know my way around a kitchen and have a knack for creating delicious healthy foods and sharing them with others. With fruits and veggies of course and have been told I'm pretty good at it. Its not what I do for a living but rather just a hobby. I also love to help inspire others to live a happy healthy lifestyle.

As most people typically say... I also love to be outdoors especially since summer is here. Who doesn't? Being outdoors just makes you feel good! I enjoy doing anything from working out at the gym to going out for a nice run, bike ride, camping trip, love a day at the beach/poolside, concerts, summer festivals - you know all the typical stuff... I also love finding different Farmers Markets to shop at. I think its the most awesome way to spend a Saturday morning/afternoon. I love when things happen spontaneously out of the blue cause sometimes the best plans are the ones unplanned.

Let's try this thing out... I just graduated with my Master's degree in May and am entering the real world for the first time. I work for a large, academic medical center - which I absolutely love - but the work keeps me busy! I love running, laughing, reading, having good conversations, meeting new people (a goal of mine is to meet a new person every day and eventually write a book about it!) and apparently summing myself up in paragraph form. I basically try to be as active as possible and spend as much time as I can outdoors. The director of my graduate school called me a "ball of contained energy!" I took it as a compliment. Most of my friends would describe me as indiscriminately kind, always smiling, authentic, witty, ambitious, a little goofy at times, and down-to-earth. I'd also like to think I have reasonably intelligent friends ;) Health, wellness, and fitness are a huge part of my life... If you take care of yourself, everything else tends to fall into place!
