I’ve been told that I’m a sweet person. I hope you'll find out for yourself. I've lived in Corona my whole life, except those days and nights when I haven't. I've got a wanderlust growing inside of me and I would love to see as much of the world as I can and write stories about it all. I believe that there's not a whole lot better than a good movie on a lazy weekend afternoon. And listening to music is a wonderful way to spend a day. I spend far too much time reading, and I don't feel bad about that at all. I try to be honest. I appreciate it when people are with me. I want to make a difference. Even if it's just for one person (although making a big difference to a lot of people would be pretty fantastic, also)

For the most part other people and I agree that my observations and conclusions are uninteresting to them, so I try not to miss many opportunities to keep my mouth shut. Unfortunately, to write a "Profile" seems to require just the opposite. My apologies to those who might wish otherwise. I have also found that neither drollery nor irony are perceived as such in these fora. So here follows My Profile, in all its boring earnestness... I like making things, and making things work. I just retired as a broadcast engineer at an NPR station. I'm also a recording engineer. In my misspent youth, I have had stints as a builder of large psychology research laboratories, a pilot, a human factors engineer, editor of an international standard on ergonomics, an opera (chorus) singer, an Army officer, a sailing instructor, etc. My politics are left of center; my sense of humor is way off center; my diet is as vegan as I can manage, here in the middle of cow-and-cowboy country.

A description of me would mention that I am a gentle person, and one who is uncomfortable seeing pain in any form. From this quality of me arose my belief that harming animals is morally unacceptable. To find someone more committed to the beliefs (righteousness!) of veganism would be an exceptionally difficult task. My vegetarianism stretches back decades, and my veganism is trying to catch up! I feel it is a shame that no woman has me in her life right now. That comment does not reflect conceit; rather, it is an accurate self-assessment of who I am: thoughtful, funny, honest, reasonably intelligent, organized, trust-worthy, dependable, amiable, and socially functional--and that is it. There is absolutely nothing else good that I can say about myself. The only other adjectives to describe me are pejoratives. (See, I am funny!) On second thought, I'm enjoying this too much; I'll keep going! I can be vivacious, and I am even outrageous at times, but my essence is sentimental, warm, considerate, and lovable.

Domesticated home-body who loves cooking, eating, and gardening meets culture-seeking, music-loving, liberal vegan. That's the only way I know to describe myself. I do love a good adventure every now and then, but mostly I enjoy quiet evenings at home or out with small groups of friends. Loud bars, clubs, and sports games are really not my dish. I prefer time spent either alone or with people I care about. I love walking/hiking (especially if I can take my dog), bicycling, and yoga (though I've fallen out of practice as of late). Exploring urban areas can be fun too, depending on the city. It usually takes me a while to warm up to new people. However, once I feel comfortable, my sense of humor ranges from incredibly corny to bitingly sarcastic. I am more of a listener than a talker, though. I tend to only speak if the subject really interests me, or if I'm just feeling silly.

I am as easy going liberal as they get. I model my sword with the wit of Voltaire. Some group considered me smarter than Sheldon, but life lessons are not determined by academic rigor. Imagine the world and you understand it. There is actually peace, but the people who loot the average man are truly souless. And the common man is sinking lower and lower and cannot rationalize the world beyond religious dogma and conformity, Rightist slogans, and the fear of the globe that is much different then him. The media mainstream is slowly getting challenged by the bloggers who fill in the gaps where print space does not let the full story get out. Imagine you run an award winning blog. You delete to the shock of thousand. See, it is not about money. Information is the key. I wonder if ADD is influenced by our constant channel changing. Ever watch a male with a remote. Click click click. Gawd. Whenever ten or more people get shot anywhere else in the country, it's called a tragedy. In Chicago, we call it the weekend.

Being kind to animals is something I grew up with. So going veg was a pretty easy transition, delayed but still easy. I've been veg for 5 years. I think most of my friends are still getting used to the idea. I like to grow vegetables, go to concerts, comedy shows, sporting events, just hang out with friends, play sports, travel and cook. Went to a rally/meeting against fox penning the other week, so I plan on doing things like that again. I ride a motorcycle but I'm definitely not a biker.

I value compassion, humor, smarts, friends and family. I love animals and the outdoors, too, so I'm your (maybe not so-) typical NorCal environmentalist, as well. I suppose I should mention, since it's apparently an issue for some folks: I do have a few tattoos. I’m a liberal, atheist, WPM member, and budding devotee of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I love my two feline children. I enjoy tea, ECD, and movies based on 19th cent. Brit lit. I tend to be a homebody because I have a lot of chores and projects to finish. There is so much to learn and experience in this world. Why should I spend my time worrying about silly things like trying to be “attractive”? In general, if I can't justify it as hygiene, then I don't do it. I won't expect anything of you that I wouldn't expect of myself. I appreciate being treated the same way. I’ll alternate between Vivaldi and AFI, formal manners and the poetry of swearing, optimism and cynicism. I will always be a work in progress. =) If you ask me my age or my weight, I will give you exact figures. I’m not like most women, and that’s putting it mildly. I don't want to "date"; let’s be friends. Marriage is not a priority for me. I feel no need to have my own human children or to raise someone else's.

I look just as good in a tuxedo as I do in my motocross outfit. You can dress me up (well, actually, I can dress myself -- have been doing it for years now with a bit of success) and take me anywhere, as long as I don't have to scream to be heard but I can talk loudly enough without having people turn their heads and glare at me over the gentle clink of their sterling silverware. I can have a filthy mouth, but I know when to keep it clean. For instance, I will never curse around your grandmother, unless she starts it. There's more, but, really, wouldn't you rather find out over an inordinate amount of coffee? I know I would. Also: If your coffee order has more than four descriptors, this isn't going to work. And here is where I insert an emoticon sort of wryly winking at the camera. Also, you should know that it is physically impossible for me to not stop to say hello to dogs on the street. So, I insist that you, like the name of that not-so-great John Cusack movie, MUST LOVE DOGS.

I came to the States from Russia, in 1993 and I have been a USA citizen since 2000. No regrets so far! My interests include Veg outreach and other AR events, volunteering, playing music, watching comedy and thought provoking movies, cycling, running, travel and day trips, walking, hiking, and I am sure I am leaving out a few. Although I don't believe in the man in the sky (the Invention of Lying was pretty funny!), I am not an angry vegan atheist, I cultivate mindfulness, acceptance and kindness in Buddhist style. I am friends with a couple who met on this site, and are now 7 years happily married and they lived a few states apart, so, for the right person, I am willing to give a long-distance relationship a try.
