I'd like to think I'm pretty fun, adventurous and fairly open minded. I really enjoy cycling and and do two evening classes twice a week to keep in shape. I love travelling, good food, theatre, music, dancing (one of the evening classes is in Lindy Hop dancing) which is great fun... I like things that make you think: recently both Mad Men and the book I'm reading "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac have been really enjoyable. I am definitely someone doesn't want to regret not going for my dreams and encouraging others to go for theirs. I am able to laugh at myself and do try to help out if friend's family ever need it. I do like occasional adventure - near and far. Most recently I lived in Barcelona (I didn't speak Spanish beforehand!) for 6 months which I really loved. In the spirit of adventure and trying something new I thought I would give this a go!

For work I teach ballet part-time, but my 9-5 is as a production planner / quality developer in a precision machining shop. Mostly my life is fairly simple. I have a great family, wonderful sister and an aunt, and some good longtime friends. I have a small loved dog and she loves me (because that's what dogs do). Having been vegan for a decade, I like to cook and enjoy eating out a lot. I can enjoy the occasional fun night out at karaoke or grabbing a beer with some friends, but most nights I'm pretty boring and I go to sleep by about eleven. I also enjoy the occasional outing to the theater, taking ballet classes here and there(I'm a retired dancer), riding my bicycle by the beach to get coffee on the weekends, hiking, all that fun stuff.

I'm a software professional on something of a hiatus as I look for the perfect job. In the mean time I find great pleasure in the simple things in life, such as a strong coffee, my morning three mile run, and vigorous play with my rambunctious cat who charges around the apartment like a dog.
My outlook on life is optimistic and upbeat. I have however often found myself not fitting in entirely with the mainstream. My veganish vegetarianism is probably the most prominent example of that. I'm not really much into sports or most of what I see on television, although I haven't owned one since the late nineties. Though I did catch most of Breaking Bad on Netflix and was impressed. I really like documentary and independent film. I don't know if the Coen brothers still qualify in that respect but Fargo remains one of my all time favorite movies. It would be hard to pick a favorite director, but if I had to it would probably be the British filmmaker Mike Leigh.
Music has always been huge for me, although I find that I follow the scene less than I did when I was in my twenties and thirties. I lived in Seattle for many years and can't seem to shake my habit of listening to their leading community public radio station, which is stream-ripped by my computer in the middle of the night.
The last book I read was a novella by JM Coetzee. My latest favorite novelist is Ian McEwan, although most of my reading of the past few years has come from the non fiction department. The philosopher Peter Singer and psychologist Steven Pinker have both been highly influential in how I think about human nature and the human condition.
Most of my life has been spent south of the border, as I was dragged there against my will at the age of 3 months. Heh. I suppose there are more economic opportunities in the US, but I was feeling unsatisfied and unsettled a few years ago, and for a combination of reasons decided to move back to the country and city of my birth. Having been here now a couple of years I do feel like it is a better home for me than is the States.
When I was younger I did a lot of canoe camping, and I can't say that experience hasn't been part of what drew me back to the Great White North. Some of my fondest memories of the past couple of years would be sipping wine and roasting potatoes over a campfire beside a northern lake, and I am very eager to return to that kind of simplicity and solitude. Maybe you'd like to join me?

I am an artist and animal lover. I never liked meat, and once I found out that it was, in fact, dead animals, it was all over for me. I became vegan about fifteen years ago after watching a downed cow video at an animal rights meeting. I try not to judge others for eating meat, but it's hard.
I am at a point in my life where I really want peace, harmony, and to just enjoy. I don't have any use for fighting or conflict in my personal life. I absolutely hate dating and dating sites, but I don't want to become a bitter old lady. I'm not opposed to a relationship if it happens, but I don't need to be in a relationship either. That being said, it would be really nice to be able to hang out with people who don't ask stupid questions like, "What do you eat?!"

Plus I share my home with cats and care for a dog that I found (he needs a home). Spending my time outside with these interesting creatures is fantastic. Plus it is so beautiful here and the weather is great. My serious side involves animal rescue work and maintaining my health. Trying to live gently and be environmentally considerate has led me to a vegan lifestyle. I earn my living as a pharmacist, but I am actually more of an anti-pharmacist! Prevention and acquiring good habits are the keys to a vital and long life. I work in a hospital and know that western medicine plays an important role as well. Recently I installed a PV system to my home. So sad that solar panels are not on every business and government building in the southwest, with the abundant sunshine.

Moved to Boston a half year ago from Syracuse via NYC. Life is finally settling down a bit: Learned some of the ropes at work, found an apartment, and sold my house back in Syracuse. I finally have time to breath! And there is an entire new city to explore. I've been seeking out vegetarian friendly restaurants, getting to some of the local theaters, and just walking around Somerville and Cambridge. Once I build up some vacation I want to travel to Europe, something I have wanted to do, but have never managed to find the time to do. I like to be active: I bike to work in Lexington most weekdays, and prefer to take public transportation and walk rather than drive. I get to see more that way, and I avoid the frustration of waiting for red lights and gridlock. I'd like to do some trail running once I find out where there are good trails, and some kayaking once I find a place to keep my kayak. I am self-described as a politically liberal, vegetarian, atheistic engineer. While this is Boston I suspect that, still, I am on the fringes.

NYC based photographer that travels for a living. I think a good first date is to go grab some drinks and see if their is any chemistry. You know it's a bad date when you look at your watch less than 5 minutes in and you wished you asked your friend for an "emergency phone call" to explain why you have to leave so suddenly. The opposite can also be true when all you want to do is tear the other person's clothes off with your teeth. Of course there are shades of grey in-between, but that's what makes everybody so unique.

I don't go around saying that the glass is half empty, but I don't say that the glass is half full either. It's both. Sometimes the glass is really empty, sometimes it's full. So my feeling is that compulsive optimism is not dealing with the situation properly, that it's a kind of denial. Sometimes things do not work out, and you have to move on. Most people in this world live in extreme poverty, where death, disease, and a kind of powerlessness are the norm. Is their glass half full? Compulsive optimism is as philosophically irrational as compulsive pessimism. And there's a part of me that is compulsively optimistic. If a friend makes a negative spin on a situation I'll present the positive side. Both sides are relevant! I'm a creative person, and enjoy having new perceptions on the world around me. I'm offbeat but that is an act meant to entertain. I haven't followed a traditional career path. I'm deeply involved in music, but like to skip around to other genres (lately I've been making paintings).

I'm filling this out because I figure it couldn't hurt. At worst, I meet some horrible people while (probably) trying some awesome food, right?
I'm a strict vegan in terms of diet, but not for ethical or spiritual reasons. I think it's a dramatically healthy choice, and that is more than enough for me. I've been a vegan for over 12 years, but despite that, I still find many forms of vegan activism somewhat distasteful. Sure, I do have a preferenace for not killing or harming other things. But if this is the only reason that you can imagine for being a vegan/vegetarian, there is a good chance that we won't get along.
I'm in Manhattan completeing a Ph.D. in Chemical and Bioloigcal Engineering. I have two bachelor's degrees. One of them is in English. Despite that, I tend to get along very well with pragmatic types. That might be one of the main reaons I'm extremely single... There don't seem to be many practical people in Manhattan. ::grins:: Despite all that, I make a solid effort not to takke anything too seriously.

I'm at a loss for words (which rarely occurs)... ultimately of course words are illusory, as are these profiles. I'm a pretty (over-) educated and (over-) accomplished guy with (too too many) over-the-top tales to tell. Lived all over and have done things few folks ever even contemplate. Met some extraordinary people along the way ... but never anyone who lived a life I would trade for. I do dangle my prepositions on occasion. I love to travel and will frequently (and spontaneously) head somewhere outlandish ... I recognize this is a lot less fun solo. Some things about me:
I'm a vegetarian slowing transitioning into a vegan diet. Although the majority of my friends are meat eaters I've gotten to the point in my life where I feel I need a partner who shares my healthy lifestyle. I practice yoga and mediation though with no strong religious beliefs (besides maybe karma- but that's practically Newtonian right? =P).I'm fairly fit (or getting there) and am looking for someone who enjoys being active. I have recently taken up, and fallen in love with running. I ran my first 5k on New Year's Eve, have another this month and am currently training for a 10k. I've also been incorporating p90x into my routine- yeah I love to push myself. On more of a personality note: I'm a total geek. Anime, superheroes, and science fiction/fantasy are all right up my alley. If you have a love for Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings I'm sure we'll find plenty to talk about. I also love to read, knit and play all the "nerdy" board/card games. (If you've never played Bang! you've been missing out!) I should say that though I can be loud and energetic (especially when geeking out) I'm rather shy when I meet new people but I hope you'll be able to look past that. =)

I saw Forks Over Knives this summer and decided to try a vegan diet. It's going well so far, but it's much more difficult to find vegan menu options when eating out. So, I am cooking more, and that is a good thing.
I spend a lot of time thinking about: The future, the fate of human civilization, how to reduce my carbon footprint, how to retire early, what I'm going to eat tomorrow, did I leave the garage door open?

I am a 33-year old Indian vegetarian who works in the silly technology industry. I enjoy playing chess, pool, trivia games, and am a voracious reader. I like a lot of "outdoorsy" stuff and like playing basketball, racquetball, volleyball and tennis, though I am quite inept at all three. I also run a great deal. What else is there to say in one of these things that's not trite or contrived? Oh...the reason for even being on this site! I grew up in vegetarian household, though I did eat meat up until almost two years ago when I read a book called The Ethics of What We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter by the utilitarian professor Peter Singer (who wrote Animal Liberation back in the mid 1970s) that changed my perspective. Now, 30 pounds lighter and much healthier, I can't even imagine going back to omnivorism.

I just moved down here to Miami in January after getting a great job. I am still on my way to setting up but have already made some really great friends. I've been vegetarian for a long time and don't see myself as compatible with a mate that isn't at least vegetarian too, and with a wonderful sense of humor and compassion and class and you know, a great woman for a great guy :)

I consider myself to be a very honest, responsible, fairly intelligent, compassionate/sympathetic person, who isn't the most thrilled to try to describe himself in a short paragraph or two ha. I'm very interested in enjoying life yet often burdened with awareness of the poor well-being of others. Unnecessary suffering really bothers me..... hence: vegetarian/near vegan. I spend a lot of my time drawing, working out, enjoying comedy (lots of stand up...I really like to laugh), listening to music, eating healthy, hanging out with friends, going to the beach, bar nights with friends etc. "Serious" subject-type interests/ discussion topics often include: religion, science, space, technology, philosophy, world poverty, environmentalism. I'm not an environmentalist freak but the way we treat the one thing we all share, the planet, has recently sparked my interest as a serious concern.
