After 22 years of teaching lots of Spanish and a little French, I'm an Ohio Supreme Court-certified Spanish-interpreter and interpreter-trainer. I walked well over 5,000 miles just to the university and back during my last fourteen years of teaching here in NW Ohio. I use no airconditioning, clothes-dryer, gas mower, cell-phone, microwave or garbage disposal. I've composted for 29 years now here at my humble hermit's hovel and animal-sanctuary. Consuming little, I thrive on a simple, peaceful lifestyle, complete with Veganism, gardening, lots of international/multilingual news, sky-watching, bread-baking and beer-brewing. (I've been a news-junkie since the 80s, when my years in military intelligence left me addicted to knowing something about what the Hell's going on. Survived 307 parachute-jumps on three continents back in those eye-opening, radicalizing days, including high-altitude, sport freefall-jumps and low-altitude, military static-line jumps.) Also enjoy maintaining an old foreign car and motorcycle, feeding and watering yard-birds daily, spoiling my rescued dogs and cats, and spending quality time with a very small number of friends. I'm healthy as a Shetland pony. Recently hiked eight miles in exactly two hours with my best friend from college-days. At 5'8", I weigh exactly what I did when I graduated from university in 1979, 134 pounds. Blood pressure: 105/65. No meds other than some aspirin every day. If you know the Briggs-Meyers scale, I'm a rare INFJ (more introverted than extroverted; more intuitive than sensing; (slightly) more feeling than thinking; more judging than perceiving). I adore this stunningly beautiful planet and every non-human animal species that humans have not yet driven to extinction. As a misanthropic antinatalist, however, I consider our own miserably-failed monkey-species to be a terminally self-obsessed, Earth-killing, animal-torturing, soul-selling, luxury- and comfort-addicted all-around disaster. I suppose I'm a Pagan, because it's the animals, Earth, Water, Air, and forests that I really worship. To be brutally honest, I don't have much respect for the "mainstream" religions - I've studied too much history and am too keen a watcher of current events! It would be an uphill struggle to try to have a balanced, respectful relationship with a woman who considers herself a "Christian" (of any type except possibly Gnostic), Jew, or Muslim, just as it would be hard for me to have a serious, long-term relationship with a woman who actually believes in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus or even (my favorite!) the Easter Bunny. My free time? I spend most of it keeping a very small (933 square-foot), tidy, smart-little-pig's house of bunker-worthy cinder-block and a very nice, large yard, taking care of rescued pets, feeding and watering wild birds, squirrels, rabbits et al daily, staying fit through walking, stretching, basic gymnastics and some yoga, following international news, watching television and films, reading, living simply, growing organic food, composting, doing yard, garage and house projects, and trying to put my money where my mouth, values, politics and heart are. For example! Among my most vital interests is leading a life humble and simple enough to leave money left over each month to give away to animal-rescue/rights, environmental, international human birth-control, and Green political organizations. I also like to walk the dogs at our county's new Humane Society. Finally, I also like to write. The single most important accomplishment in my life has been an internationally-published, scholarly work on medieval French literature, history of the Crusades, the Knights Templar, and the Cathar religious heresy. It's now in its third printing, in three countries, in my third language (French). The bloody Catholic Church would have tortured and toasted me like a heretical Norse-Celtic marshmallow for my book, a fact that fills me with subversive, seditious glee. I want to write another radical book in Spanish I've planned for years, but it will have to wait until if and when I retire, methinks.

Although I worked in a position with significant public contact for many years, I would describe myself as an “introverted chameleon” and although that sounds like an exotic reptile that stands on its head, it just means I do not enjoy crowded settings, but can blend in practically anywhere.
I’ve been a vegetarian for close to 32 years and while I enjoy eating out on occasion (favorites are Mediterranean, Mexican and pizza), my preference is to prepare meals at home and doing so with someone special is more enjoyable. I make an effort to maintain my health, exercising regularly, including hiking in a nearby mountain preserve. I care about the environment and make an effort to reduce my carbon footprint, which includes minimizing waste, recycling, driving fuel efficient vehicles and limiting distant travel. I do enjoy day trips and exploring all the natural beauty that AZ has to offer, but due to several personal obligations, I cannot currently be out of town overnight.

I'm keen on doing better. I'd like to connect with someone else who's confident we can. I am a vegan-ish vegetarian leaning towards raw veganish, but I don't much like labels or to "identify" as "something". I don't fit well into boxes, but the Matrix always seem to like to put people in them. Wanna break some with me?.... I occasionally eat honey and bee pollen (see, there's a broken box right there!). In fact, I LOVE them both. I occasionally also eat raw cheese (maybe twice a year). I think veganism has gone off the deep end, taken a good concept and blown it out of proportion... we are all part of the cycle of life on Earth. Vegan philosophies, for me, are less about health and more being trendy... it's like austerity measures applied to diet. As for me,
I want to integrate more and more completely with the wisdom of Mother Nature and all of her members... I find her mezmerizing! She is the consumate engineer, the consumate artist... she is pure beauty, truth, love. Exactly the things I aspire to be!:) You too?
I have learned to slow down and think about my actions. I am looking for someone with similar depth and who's thought about the meaning behind the things they do. I AM ALSO SEARCHING FOR LIKEMINDED PEOPLE TO GROW A COMMUNITY BASED ON CRUELTY-FREE LIVING, A DEEP CONNECTION WITH NATURE AND NON-TRADITIONAL OR NEW CULTURE! My sexual orientation doesn't fit well in a box either (sigh!)... I got rid of my mask, my ego, and stopped pretending to be satisfied with a "plain vanilla" kind of relationship. A 50% success rate for marriage doesn't suggest it is the right answer for a lot of people, does it? And how many of those marriages that don't end in divorce are really "happy"? I think many people are lying to themselves, and they identify so strongly with the socially acceptable ego-mask they are masquerading in, that they don't really know who they are or what they want! That was me once, but I no longer care about social norms more than what I feel in my own heart.
I value honesty and commitment. I think love is bigger, more beautiful, more gentle, more wild, more honesty, more fascinating than people (most people) plugged into the system can handle. And sex for me is the zenith of spiritual experiences. I love diversity and the uniqueness of the individuals I have met who have had the courage to take off their masks and live free ('cause the truth does set you free!). Photo two was taken a few years ago, it's my Covid silver lining. I can go to a costume party as an Amish man. I used to use the authentic Amish straw hat while doing yardwork, despite my son's embarassment. The stern expression was ad-hoc, how I imagined a serious Amish gentleman would pose.

My greatest desire in life is to be emotionally and physically close with a woman. I love to hold hands, hug, and give and get foot and back massages.
I enjoy walking and bike riding. Bike riding is a passion. I try to set a goal every year to inspire my training. I love trees, especially in winter when I can admire the intricate beauty of their branches. I like walking thru woods and parks and around the streets of Northwest DC. In late May and early June, I'll be walking thru the alleys and keeping an eye out for black mulberry trees, the most amazing fruit (free) I've ever had.

I've been vegan for about 30 years. I've been interested in becoming active in veganism, and other like causes. PlantPure Nation is an organization of vegan activists lead by Nelson Campbell. Nelson's father is T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study. Nelson founded PlantPure Nation, looking to spread the whole food plant based lifestyle nationwide. I have started a PlantPure Nation group in Chevy Chase DC/MD to try to find like minded folks looking to help others discover the many benefits of the lifestyle. So far, though, the group has not become active.
I found out a few years ago that even Jack O'Lantern pumpkins are good to eat as long as they are not carved. So in 2015, I organized an event. After Halloween, I collected about 300 pumpkins from neighbors, and donated them to the Mid Atlantic Gleaning Network (MAGNET). MAGNET distributed them to food banks, who planned to distribute them to food bank clients with instructions on how to cook them.
