I value personal growth and living life in the balance. Basically, I am an eastern man as what I practice has come from eastern thought and spiritual disciplines. I have drawn to my life those tools that assist any human to be able to experience personal growth and to be a benefit to others in assisting them to do the same. I changed my diet at the age of 19 excluding meat of any kind and evolved my diet through the years in order to get to where I am today. What we put into our mouths certainly colors how we shall live and think. Ahimsa is the real principle to not eating meat and that equates to not being violent towards other living entities, which should include the 'self'. I began the practive of yogic disciplines at the age of 21 and decided to stay with the internal martial arts, it is a way of life for me. I am native to Dayton Ohio and moved to Wash. D.C. to go to Howard U. This is where my destiny unfolded.

One of my young karate students gave me a drawing he had done, with this note: "You are the best teacher. You are kind, respectful, and [the] most powerful person I know." Of course, he's ten years old, so how many people does he know? But I hope to live up to that.

I embrace contradiction: the rational mystic, the scientific pantheist, the butt-kicking bunny-hugger, the introverted exhibitionist. You may find me sitting meditation with the Zen folks one night and dancing around the fire with the Pagans the next...and then writing about atheism on Sunday. Life is an essay question, not multiple choice!

Fiercely intellectual. I own several hundred books and have two published so far (one by a small press, one self-published). I will judge you by your bookshelves. If they are empty, move on.

I mostly earn my keep programming computers for a tiny e-commerce company, putting my M.S. in computer science to use. I also do shiatsu (acupressure/Asian bodywork) and massage, and teach karate.

It's not really paying (yet?) but I also write. My first book, about historical and philosophical links between Buddhism and Paganism, was published in 2013. Thanks to that I now have a blog on spirituality at a fairly prominent website.

I dabble in music; I play guitar and sing and occasionally write songs. Recently started messing with photography and digital art, even had a few pieces up on the big LED art billboard on Charles St.

I also read many books, spend too much time on the computer (yes, I'm a geek), and hang out with my overly-energetic puppy.

Recently I've been devoting more time to travel. I've gone to Japan six times and have been trying to use martial arts and ABT/massage events as an excuse for domestic travel.

And I do the festival thing: if you've been to the Free Spirit Gathering or Starwood, you've probably seen me dancing around the fire. I've also been spotted at Playa Del Fuego (East Coast regional Burn) on several occasions, running around reading from the works of Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg and Charles Bukowski at the top of my lungs.

Vegan since 1989.

I totally savor life. Fun, fit, funny, non-drooling, and a perfect half for a whole us. Unique, vegetarian, and passionate. I practice Kriya Yoga - mediate/pray morning and evening (sometimes just briefly). My spiritual path is important to me. A former liberal blogger, the more I attempt to move away from the intensity of politics for spirituality, the stupider (and scarier) our politics gets, bringing me right back to it. Aargh! Is it 2020 yet??? Nov 2018 at least? Sigh.

I'm a Realtor in the DC area and love what I do. At some point I will move towards some kind of healing work, or working with animals/nature. I have a fantastic son - a senior year at UMich. Stays with his mom when he's in town. All on good terms. Ask me questions. I'll answer. I think I'm crappy at this profile thing. Coffee/tea someplace you feel comfy? Vegfood?

I am originally from Maryland, but spent many years in Southern California. Since I moved back, I don't really miss LA (well maybe sometimes :)). My favorite beach town is Ocean City, MD (and that includes California beaches) and I spend my weekends there during the summer. I have the flexibility to move to another city, but my preference at this time is to stay within a few hours of this area (maybe I can be talked into moving somewhere else :)). I have to admit I’m a night person (not all night :)), and going out to a place with good music and dancing can get me going. But, I also like a cozy evening stayin in and watchin a movie with the right person. I am a former DJ (radio and clubs) and have a wide variety of musical tastes (yes I like hip hop and country too). I am also a strict vegetarian (almost vegan) because of ethical reasons involving treating animals with kindness... and I love dogs. I have found it hard to meet other ethical vegetarians that I am interested in dating, so maybe we will find each other on here :)

Steve, a Vegan in Baltimore Steve

I like who I am. I'm honest, kind, compassionate, down to earth, caring, affectionate, sensitive, young at heart, pro-choice, intelligent, fun, passionate, creative and liberal ... and proud of it.

I care about the environment and treatment of animals.  I'm morally opposed to zoos and keeping animals (especially mammals) in captivity. I'm a good cook. I recycle and buy cruelty-free products and organic food when possible. I’m a good kisser. I believe in evolution.

I'm a moderate drinker, usually wine with dinner. I have an open mind about alternative remedies, but don't reject Western medicine, either.

I have eclectic musical tastes. I enjoy reading and love movies, especially independent films. I'm probably the only guy you will ever meet who owns The Jane Austen Book Club.

I have no religious faith, but do have a spiritual side largely influenced by Buddhism and Taoism. Imagine a blend of Joseph Campbell, The Tao of Pooh and Chief Seattle. I like what the Dalai Lama said: "My religion is kindness." I do my best to live a life of compassion, keep things in perspective, treat others as I want to be treated, and try not to get too attached to material stuff.

Thumbs up: Shakespeare, my two cats, good wine, the Beatles, sharing the Sunday NY Times, Macs, tennis, loons, cooking for someone I love, NPR, Leo Kottke music, traditional jazz, the second movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, The New Yorker, cartoons before movies, cuddling, long walks, holding hands, and slow, sweet kisses.

Thumbs down: Donald Trump, hunting & fishing, arrogance, the Confederate flag, cigarettes & cigars, beets (allergic), FOX Noise, Bible-thumpers, NASCAR, reality TV, and Limbaugh, Palin, Hannity, Coulter et al.

A few of my heroes: Rosa Parks, Julia Butterfly Hill, the Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King Jr., Jimmy Carter, Albert Einstein, Pete Seeger, Michael Moore, Natalie Maines, Elizabeth Warren.

Useless talents and fun facts: I can do Monty Python's Spam and Constitutional Peasant sketches. I’ve written a book narrated by a cat. I own every Beatles album on vinyl. My Little League batting average was .000. I know both the opening AND closing theme songs of Gilligan's Island.

My favorite quote: He who thinks he knows, doesn't; he who knows he doesn't know, knows.

I'd like to make a difference in the world and share my life with a kindred spirit in a loving, passionate, intimate, committed, forever relationship. I think happiness is even better when it's shared with someone special.

I have a cat. Or she has me?  I like small business entrepreneurial activities. Currently I am a landlord with three rentals.  I enjoy beautiful music especially love songs and hymns.  Not to crazy about opera.  I have a growing relationship with Jesus.  I would consider relocating. Just coming out of a LTR and seeking friends, like-minded folks, and romantic partners.  I live on a small island in the chesapeake bay and it is difficult to meet new people, since transportation is only by boat to the mainland.  I am a former animal sanctuary employee, turned coffee roaster, and I enjoy life on the island and all the activities that come with it--kayaking, biking, and enjoying nature.  I enjoy reading and crossword puzzles,  and create art from found objects. I recently picked up the viola---an instrument I've wanted to learn for awhile. I love to cook and bake bread once a month.

I am a transman who transitioned over 15 years ago while in law school.

I am a big fan of pema chodron, and resonate with her words. although not a "meditator" by any means, I  find peace on the water and amongst my bird friends.

I'm originally from England and have lived in the US for over a decade now. I've been vegan my entire adult life, and I doubt I could ever be with someone who isn't also vegan. I'm also an atheist, and far far to the left of any Democrat. I'm not an activist, and I've come to the conclusion that changing the minds of others almost never happens by arguing or protesting, instead it is best done by example.

I am a hopeful romantic, fiercely loyal to family and friends, and try to be a plus to the world. I once trained as a vegetarian chef in Evanston, IL, and have a life long love affair with vegetarianism starting at age 15. I dance, meditate and do yoga. I like to spend time as much as possible out of doors. My favorite way to spend time: the usual suspects: family, friends, nature, music, books, museums, food, gardening, animals, and art auctions. If all else fails, I dance all night then howl at the moon.

My interests lie in health & fitness, yoga, vegetarian cooking, concerts, local acoustic music, hiking, animal welfare, and nature and environmental resources. I love traveling (weekend getaways are the best!) dining, exercising, visiting animal sanctuaries, exploring new restaurants, beautiful natural resources and generally enjoying life. I am ready for more adventure and less work, having spent a lot of time on my career and education.

My career is in web/social medias in the Annapolis area. I like to keep as active as possible. A typical week for me is working out, dining out and/or cooking and meeting up with friends I am passionate about living each day to the fullest, having compassion for all living creatures, and keeping a positive outlook on life. I would describe myself as someone who is intelligent, open-minded, compassionate, socially conscious, and who cares about the world around me. I'm not that much into sports, except for tennis and events like the Olympics and not really into bars and drinking. I'm much younger than my chronological age, both in my attitude and physical appearance (or so I'm told!)

I am seeking companionship with someone who shares my interests, who has a healthy balance between their career and enjoying personal time together! Dating with the possibility of a long-term relationship is the way I would describe my goals.

Generally, I am an open minded, non materialistic gal. I am concerned with environmental issues and try to live lightly on the earth. I have a cat and lots of herbs and vegetables in my garden (including lots of catnip!). I enjoy conversation about life and human nature and consider myself a searcher and a lifelong learner. I'd rather be out in nature, reading, or hanging out with friends vs. watching t.v. I'm looking to meet someone as a friend first and see what happens from there. Oh what else to say? I think I've mentioned all the important stuff here... It is nice to place an ad on a site with so many like-minded people!

I was a vegetarian for 23 years, have been a vegan for 6 years.  I like all animals, but know birds best.  I work for a nonprofit, have been doing it over twenty years.  I just retired in June 2015 but will work a little to make ends meet (and not go nuts).  I haven't traveled much, but I like being outdoors.  I'm a liberal arts kind of person.  I love music, have no talent for it but I keep trying to play it.  I grew up in a sports family and follow my home teams but I don't watch a lot of sports.  Or anything else on TV.  Friends tell me how great TV shows are these days but I just am not interested for some reason.  (Update: I like Vikings.  Hate the violence, but enjoy it otherwise.)  It's easy to eat vegan, but a little tricky to be a vegan in the real world.  I'm usually low-key.  I almost never get angry at people, but I have verbally and physically assaulted some old cars and faulty appliances.

Conservative (with a real goofy side :p ) leaning towards very conservative, I believe the best impact humans can have on the planet is none at all. I like to take alot of nature walks (mostly in the spring and summer) and work/socialize with animals. Despite my conservativeness I enjoy playing video games and watching tv and movies (the scarier or super...heroer? the better). I also enjoy a random game of pool, bowling(preferably at a bowling alley not someone's house unless I hate them and WANT to break all of their appliances and furniture), or miniture golf here or there.

Drama free girl looking for drama free guy to do fun activities with. Kayak, hike, wine/beer tastings/ funky vegan  restaurants. I am a glippie (glamorous hippie type).  Funny, driven, evolving. I work on an anti-puppy nonprofit and other animal advocacy issues. I CAN NOT fathom how the current administration is in the White House so I am constantly shaking my head.  I clearly need to get out more so I can forget about the nightmare.  Being from the DC area, I am the political type.  I love fast cars and trucks (liberal redneck I gather).  I used to own a vineyard so I am a farm girl at heart and not afraid of getting dirty. I am an open book.  Just ask. YOU:  Funny, healthy lifestyle, did not vote for Trump, are able to carry on a conversation and that means e mail conversations too.  If I ask you a question the correct answer is your answer then engage me in a question.  If you don't, I will assume you are not interested or you are socially inept.  Good luck!

Marie, a Almost veg in Cockeysville Marie
is a 50 year old, Christian female.
Living in Cockeysville, Maryland
Almost veg diet.

I love nature; grew up in Michigan, lived in Southern California, where there is plenty of water. That's the only thing wrong with Maryland. . .can't swim in the waters of the bay (sailing is fun, but not without diving in), cannot bodysurf here, etc.  Have travelled many continents for a former career but am now content with less of that. Though who's to say? I love adventure with the right person, and love foreign lifestyle/culture/cuisine because it informs and opens te senses and the mind and heart.

Having enjoyed a couple of rewarding careers in journalism/ magazine and news editing, then as a social entrepreneur designing clothing in India/Nepal/Thailand, I am garnering new skills in. . . (drumroll) health, financial literacy.  Or law. (I have a M.A. in writing, good preparation). Or health PLUS legal advocacy for women disriminated against in the courts (like in the Bill Cosby case. . why do they still air and monetize his shows? EEEEEWWWW..) and against ageism. Too much focus on color, of late (what you resist persists); not enough focus on combatting ageism (on this coast but Oregon is better) and patriarchal thinking in the courts, presidency, more. . .

I seek a partner who is youthful, healthy, open to discovering ways to enjoy the later years together. Pen pals who want to share insights in health of body/mind/soul.

My spiritual life is big; I am given to continuous prayer and reflection though I don't feist it on another.  I am a follower of Jesus, that awesome healer, that extraordinarily ordinary radical Jew teacher of gentleness, that Redeemer in the triad of Creator/Redeemer/Sustainer.

I enjoy  plays, literature, the arts of course, and a museum tour on a rainy day; but also the simple life, including gardening a bit and feeding birds and consorting quietly with wildlife. . .as close to nature as one can get. I plan to live near water in a rustic/industrial home one day, with my love. (for now, my Angeldog). I plan to become a beekeeper like my grandmother was.And write and pubish nonfiction, plays, and at least one children's book.

I take good care of my body (dry brushing, apple cider vinegar, supplements, intelligent eating; at this time I do eat happy-chicken eggs from farmers I know, and wild-caught salmon from Alaska.  I have to research nutrition/food combining more  before swearing off on these) and enjoy every day I wake up.  Dumbbells on either side of my stove because--why not?-- I can work out/stretch upper body when making coffee, tea, or a broth. While listening to a Tedtalk or informative utube, or to nature. Or to the silence.

I read the New York Times; on a busy day I'm a skimmer, but I like to keep up with the arts in NYC, plus it's considerd a "writer's paper". I'll never forget seeing a trend for twin-set sweaters years ago in the Times which was a gold mine for me as an international designer. I also love BBC International News. We are NOT the world.

Ordinariness takes on sacredness when we spend time alone, doesn't it? I drip my espresso with cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, ( yes what's needed is a white pepper, right?) then add local raw honey and coconut or other nut milk. Just saying, we would likely not be meeting at Starbuck's. Or eating out anyplace that is a national chain. I like to support local talent and entrepreneurs, whenever possible.

Why? Because I've always been one. Just like you. Even the rare occasions I am working or consulting others, I am always self-employed, in my mind.

My cell rests on the kitchen counter and I check it when I walk by. I will never answer a phone call when I am in a conversation, or having a meal together, or. . . Oh! I LOVE documentaries and memoir. Favorites: A River Ran Through it, Memoir of a Geisha,The English Patient, shorts from all countries that don't always have the American requisite of a happy ending tied up with a bow. . .but characters whose choices live on in the mind for a time. (Yes I have written a play and am crafting a screenplay).

I love to work out and swim. . .have developed something I call "water kenpo". Yoga, yes, I'll get back to that in the winter. This is the season--summer--for hiking with my pupster and a neighbor's. I adore the sweetness and intelligence of canines, goats, horses, deer, you name it. All living things.

But more importantly, what about YOU?

The best way to describe myself is as an intellectual gearhead. I'm just as comfortable with my hands in an engine, as I am discussing world events, speculating on the metaphysics, or designing computer systems. That last one is actually my job. I'm well traveled and would like to see more of the world. When I travel overseas, I'm all about understanding what it's like to live in whatever place I'm visiting. When I travel domestically, I try to find all the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the area. I enjoy spending time with my friends, usually with coffee or drinks with good conversation or games like Spanish Monopoly or bowling (gutterball here I come). Overall, I guess you could say I'm pretty open-minded and easy-going.

Easy going, friendly, health conscious, caring, hard working but loves free time,  loves animals and laughter seeks activity partner, maybe more. I am interested in taking things slow letting a friendship develop first.

Myers Briggs tells me I am an INFP.

My interests include comedy shows, art exhibits, and being outside in the summer (but under shade as my skin won't tan well).  I love paddling a kayak or rowboat, reading by a river’s edge, chilling at the shore, and hiking or camping.   Some places I've been to include road tripping down the Pacific Coast Highway, camping in the desert SW, hiking in Arches, Zion, Grand Canyon and, of course close to home too, chateaus in the Loire Valley, whale watching off San Diego, dophin swimming in the Florida Keys...

This time of year I like outdoor concerts and festivals, live music, art exhibits and fresh honey and fruits from orchards.  Personal and spiritual growth, family, and caring about the environment and animals are passions.  So is staying in shape. It feels right to make the effort.

Sharing interests in some or all of these endeavors would be great.

I like warmer climates over colder, less crowded over cities, and movies and books over news.

Spiritually a mixture of Buddhist/Christian.

If any of this sounds like you, please send me a note. If not best of luck to you in your search!

I am a positive, self-sufficient, and fun-loving vegan.  I chose a vegetarian life-style over 20 years ago because of my deep conviction for animal rights and have gone full vegan over a year ago.  I recently founded a non-profit to provide sanctuary for neglected and abused exotic birds and to raise awareness about the plight of captive parrots and parrots in the wild.

When I have time . . . I love watching sports (Go O's! and Skins!) and working out at the gym.  I love any activity that brings me close to nature.

I'm looking for someone who recognizes that animals' feelings count like ours do. If you're compassionate to animals, you should be toward people as well. I do get exasperated with people’s willingly stupidity and disheartened with their cruelty. I’m an environmentalist but of a scientific bent. I’m an agnostic.Ask me anything you want.
