My description:
I'm a voracious reader and a wannabe writer who hates using the pronoun "I." Love baseball, foreign films (especially French), the French language, my two parrots, and dining out at favorite relatively inexpensive restaurants in Westchester and Manhattan.
I've never been married but am amenable to it if the right woman comes along.
I'm a devoted dad to the two parrots whose pics are attached to my profile. Sparky, the African Grey, will be 14 in December, and Val, the red-bellied parrot, turned 17 in June. Sparky should outlive me. Val is probably middle aged. They do not bite; I do not live in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
I don't drink but don't mind if you do, as long as it's not to excess.
Love Indian, Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, and Mexican food, medium spicy.
I couldn't be with a smoker, so if you smoke even only occasionally, please don't waste your time or mine. Same goes if you hang around smokers often; smoking isn't a part of my life, and I intend for that to remain the case.
I'm a staunch Democrat who pays attention to current events by reading the Times most days and the Daily News every day.
Favorite authors include Pete Hamill, Douglas Brinkley, John Irving, P.D. James, Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald, Michael Chabon, Fyodor Doestoyevsky, and Caleb Carr.
Favorite films include Airplane!; Broadcast News; Amélie; Paris, Je T'Aime; The Artist; and Sideways. I vastly prefer foreign and indie films to Hollywood-generated blockbusters. Foreign and indie films are generally about the story, not the special effects or the star.
My musical tastes run to the '70s and '80s, with a liberal sprinkling of jazz and the American Songbook. I like a lot of disco stuff, even though I can't dance. I have a few modern ('90s, '00s) songs in my collection but not many. Favorite bands/singers include Peter Wolf and the J. Geils Band; Bonnie Tyler; Donna Summer; Billy Joel; MFSB; Ella Fitzgerald; Frank Sinatra; Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine; and Bananarama.
Also love listening to comedians on Sirius/XM's comedy channels and occasionally going to see favorites live, including Bobby Collins, Ron White, Alonzo Bodden, Mitch Fatel, and Bob Marley (comedian from Maine).
Seeking:
Well, my only disqualifiers are smoking and Republicanism. Everything else is pretty negotiable.
You should be someone who reads for pleasure; if you don't, I don't think you would quite grasp my need to do so.
A sense of humor helps, too. You don't have to be a constant joker, but if you appreciate laughter and practice it as much as you can, you're probably someone I would want to get to know.
Otherwise, if we have similar tastes in movies, music, and food, so much the better.
And if you're a baseball fan, why are you still reading this without having contacted me yet? :)
