I'm Melisa, a recent college grad living in the Twin Cities metro area. I'm a vegan, microbiologist, Lutheran, nerd, and awesome person!

I've been a vegan since September 2013 and I love it. I'm healthier and happier and I've decided that I want to pursue a career in nutrition. Right now, I'm studying for the GRE (graduate record examination) and getting ready to apply for graduate school.

I spend my free time hanging out with family, cooking all sorts of delicious food, working out (trying to lose weight from my omnivore days), and watching a lot of YouTube and Netflix. I love learning. I spend a lot of time researching the science and nutrition of plant-based diets and I love to teach people about the benefits of a vegan diet. I love to learn new skills too, like knitting, weight lifting, and gardening.

If I had to choose one word that doesn't describe me, it would be apathetic. I have so many goals and things I'd like to accomplish. I want to run a 5K, learn how to sew my own clothes, start doing yoga, volunteer more, visit Europe (again), adopt a pet, and it's my dream to earn a PhD.
