I have been very interested in a vegetarian diet for several years and have come to believe that good health and well being come from staying away as nuch as possible from animal proteins. Particularly, heart health and cancer prevention are good reasons to understand vegetarianism and eat well balanced diets, mostly from healthy fruits, grains, and vegetables. My personal Eastern studies have , also, pointed out the way to combine healthy eating with a healthy attitude.

I think Secular Buddhism helped me understand that there is simply a point where one must stop; where science cannot hope to ever root out anything additional. We must stop and be satisfied with an Unknowable and live in it's presence, with the Irrational that encompasses the ever fragile rational realm of man What we can do is develop the root consciousness that is within us; the one that can observe our ego consciousness and by virtue of seeing the flaws in the ego consciousness, reign above it in mindfulness and insight and stop the reactive emotions and compulsive thought patterns from arising, or if they arise, quickly, get the illusory and dual perspectives back into the correct and healthy perspective. I think this is an evolution of consciousness that liberates individuals who randomly emerge and comprise a very small percentage of the Earth's population. It seems to be the state that Krishnamurti and others speak of and it is exceptional rather than trans-human or in any way mystical. It requires strong intelligence but intelligence alone does not and cannot assure transcendent thought and maybe as often as not intelligence becomes a hindrance. Coming from the East, the Buddha says "all existence is suffering" and speaks of why we suffer and how suffering can be appeased and from the West, come the Existentialist speaking of alienation, angst, forlornness, estrangement, and fragmentation, which sounds like "all is suffering" to me.

Should there be further communication for you and me? There aren't many vegetarians or buddhist in SE Missouri.

I am honest and harmless and cautious! I am basically a contented and happy person who faces reality, always.
