Update: it's 2023. While taking a pandemic-related break from concert booking, I work for the nation's largest liquor distributor (Patron, Jameson, etc.) and at a busy restaurant. Though I work with alcohol, I'm compatible with those who drink as well as those who don't.


No gun-p*rn-action figure-superhero movie-video game collections. No sports team obsessions, though I'll go to the occasional game if you want. I have three affectionate indoor cats that I rescued as kittens. Having three is the same as having two. I like most dogs as well. Besides the cats, I live alone.


I'm loyal, trustworthy, and dependable. I'm both straightforward and imaginative. And I'm resilient, in my personal life (apartment fire) as well as my professional life-- what I've been through as an agent would have made for a good reality TV show. Difficult venue owners, performers, and clients... though I'm good at working with different kinds of people, and when faced with a problem I can be stubborn about finding a solution.


Though I turned 57 in late 2023, those who guess are often off by five or ten years. Maybe it's a combination of my appearance as well as how I express and carry myself, as I'm energetic-informal-sometimes young at heart (I'm not coasting or slowing down with an eye on retirement). I'd wanted to have children some way if possible (biological? donor? adoption?) so I adjusted to appear in like-minded peoples' search results. Though at this point I'm also open to meeting people who aren't having kids.


I value good conversation. I can be inquisitive and observant. If I write, I will have read your profile. If we meet, I will want to listen to you. I want to hear your ideas, thoughts, opinions.... And I want you to have some of these to share. Even if they differ sometimes from mine.

Living a principled life of meaning, purpose, simplicity, and growth is my goal.  Originally from New Jersey, I went to college (Pomona) and beyond in southern California but have spent most of my adult life in southern Arizona.  I find the Sonoran Desert to be magical, and I hike a lot, but you can see beauty in most places if your mind is open to it.  The beauty of any place, though, derives mainly from the people who populate it.  Character traits I value include "compassion and altruism, placidness, patience, and slowness to anger, and abundant loving-kindness and truthfulness" (Exodus 34:6), as well as reverence for all life.  The latter includes wearing a mask, to protect both others and myself, during the pandemic!  Practical examples of these traits include: being mindful of the needs of the disabled and the vulnerable (e.g., using larger font sizes!); avoiding ableist language; uplifting others; and giving people the benefit of the doubt.  I look for ways to help others, although, whatever I do, I try to avoid self-serving feelings like self-validation and pride.

With my scientific background, I'm mostly a left-brained person, but I try to exercise the right half as well, although I fall a little short of being a polymath.  I appreciate the contribution of art to life and especially the creativity behind it, although I like to view it not just for its aesthetic beauty but also as an extension of the person behind it.  Jewish ethical values (which are mostly universal in nature) and teachings inform and guide me in all aspects of living -- including diet!  I've been vegan for 35 years.  I don't engage in social media, which I feel is harmful to society and unbecoming, and try hard not to let technology control my life.  I've striven to bring Jewish medicine and the values it represents to the world via the eponymous website.  In essence, it's a philosophy that regards medicine as a sacred vocation whose practitioners view their work as a calling, shunning any motivation that smacks of "what's in it for me?"  The goal is to make the world safe not for democracy but for medical ethical meritocracy and, thereby, for patients.  In that capacity, I also fill the urgent need for a source of evenhanded, authoritative information on vegetarian nutrition.

Finally, two parallel philosophical observations from two great traditions on how to gain the most satisfaction from your food:

"When the food inside ourselves is blessed by our having led an upright life, we feel satiated even after eating just a small amount" (Rashi, rabbinic scholar).

"When you have love, even water alone will be satiating, but, when you're lacking love, there is no food that will satiate you" (Chinese proverb [Youqíng yinshuibao, wúqíng shífànji]).

I'm a very family-oriented, long-term activist who enjoys spending time outdoors but unfortunately doesn't have as much time as I'd like, to do so.  I work multiple paying jobs and also run a non-profit group dedicated to promoting compassion and harmony between all species, so have very little time to just "hang out".  

I do make time to enjoy gatherings with friends as well as my young niece and nephew, and my rescued pets, but most of my time while not working, is focused on volunteer activities and my 86-year-old mom with dementia.  It's all somewhat physically and mentally draining, so I really enjoy being a homebody when there is finally some downtime.

 I consider myself caring, and generous with my and energy as far as trying to help anyone who needs it.  My support system is large and my plate is full, yet there is always room in my life for new people and experiences.

My family of origin cared deeply for each other and their siblings. There was a Jewish youth group, multiple degrees, Israel, marriage and retained rapport with the mother of my children.

There was/is a management career and the dotcom world, and now social science and psych. I view these as substitutes for relationship in many respects.

What’s important to me are friends and family... Connection with others and love... and perhaps dancing (Tango, swing, waltz, folkdance, too --and I love to watch ballet, contemporary, even hip-hop).

I’ve enjoyed a lot of places, people and experiences.

I have a great fascination with many aspects of life. For instance, I seldom perform in public, but I'm obsessed with the concept of performance and how people come to live that life, and achieve success or fail. In particular, I've paid close attention to comedic performance for a long time.

I stopped eating meat 44 years ago, and while I've toyed with veganism on and off over the years, and nowadays many of my meals are vegan, but I've never made the big jump.

I continue to learn about spirituality, by studying and practicing mindfulness and meditation. I organized a non-denominational, mindfulness workshop, which was attended by people from several states.

When I find a person, topic or issue which piques my interest, I can become very curious, and focused.  That’s why I was so motivated as a moderator of a public affairs tv and radio show for 20 years, for which I chose the topics and guests.

I am intrigued by individuals’ stories, whether it’s conversing, reading, or watching documentaries.

After a trip to Israel, I became inspired to do something to further sustainable practices, and organized a community garden. All the vegetables were harvested, and used by a non-profit organization to feed those in need in our city.

I love technology and I am always troubleshooting and repairing friends' computers. Through some classes and a lot of trial and error, I have spent a lot of time cultivating an understanding of the hardware, so now I am expanding my knowledge of the software. It can get frustrating, but I love the challenge (soduku is another love of mine).

I have loved focusing on raising my two kids for the past 20 years (they are ages 18 and 20), and now that they have grown up, I am looking forward to focusing on establishing a career and spending time with a companion.
