The greatest decision of my life was returning to the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2005 to finish a bachelors degree in history. While the experience of being a full time student while working full time as a musician was often accompanied by a lack of sleep, I had so much fun earning the BA that I signed up for the MA program in history at San Jose State University where I realized that I am happiest spending most of my time reading and writing about history. In the graduate program, I developed an arsenal of historian’s tools which have sharpened my sense of observation and I have become familiar with the historiography of the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, Fascism and the Cold War. I have written on Rosa Luxemburg, George Orwell, Robespierre, Jose Ortega y Gasset, Émile Zola, Hannah Arendt, and Virginia Woolf, among others, and earned six scholarships including one for women’s history. The experience of being a student of history has inspired me to pursue a career as a history instructor.

Professional, educated vegetarian for many years switching to a vegan/raw diet. I've became vegetarian for animal rights reasons and also that I didn't see any difference between farm animals and pets. I wouldn't eat my dog, so why I would want to eat a cow or a pig? I love dancing, walking my dogs, hiking, biking but also like to stay home sometimes watching movies or reading a good book. I practice yoga and I started meditation too. Where to begin, there is more to me than just a few short paragraphs can tell. It is hard to tell you about my inner self other than to say I know the value of life. I know all animals have interests and can be benefited or harmed. I have a hard time watching a movie when an animal is harmed even if it fictional. I have an international focus. I have traveled extensively in the developing world for college and church volunteering. I now work at an international non-profit and love it!
I became a vegan last year for the health benefits and out of curiosity after reading an interview with Kathy Freston. I have continued being vegan for ethical reasons including animal rights and the humanitarian aspect of the diet. (The grain we feed to cows to make our steaks could go to feeding starving people!) :) I love watching documentaries on plant-based diets, just last weekend i went to the screening of Vegucated which was great!
In the past year or so I have had a newfound appreciation and love for music and live shows.
I love living by the water, being technologically disconnected at times and going on adventures.
I love ethnic food like Ethiopian, Japanese, Mexican, etc yumm vegan food!

I loved CA, it was so easy to live this lifestyle, but I missed my family more than anything - that is how I ended back in FL for Grad School. I love nature. I glide where the wind takes me and walk to the beat of my own drum. I try to see the positive side of things. I believe you should not judge anyone unless you have walked a thousand miles in their shoes. I have faith. I believe God gets me through everything. I have a problem with organized religion and the narcissistic belief system that they are right and everyone else is on a doomed path. It's called Faith for a reason, we don't know, but we can feel.

I have been mostly vegetarian for many years, recently tried a 21-day vegan diet and am leaning towards making it permanent. I feel it's more sustainable and I can let go of any guilt over the treatment of animals. I am very involved in my community and local politics - I follow liberal tendencies. I have a personal Christian faith that I believe is close to Quaker beliefs - one day I'll get to a meeting to find out for sure. Most Sundays I spend working with Food Not Bombs - so refreshing to get involved with the local youth who want to make change happen. And otherwise spend my time (non-working) working in my garden, attending gardening class, at local events (music, art, etc), bicycling, walking, or volunteering. If I had more time to read, I'd read more. I suppose I spend that time now trying to stay abreast of my friends and what's going on via the internet. I turned off my TV over 10 years ago and wonder how anyone finds the time!

Hi there! First of all, if you don't love animals, skip on by, because we won't mesh! ;) If you love animals, and if you think love animals means to eat them or hunt them, wrong qualification...definitely skip on by...you have to actually have an affection for them...if you meet the first qualification, read on! I am new to all of this and still a bit skeptical, as I've heard all kinds of stories-good, as well as scary...I'm not getting any younger, and it's hard to meet people who are not boozing it up at the local bar nightly, so I figured I'd give this a shot! I really like to do all kinds of things-from traveling, to going to shows-theatre or movies, going to eat at a new spot or a favorite. I also like going to the beach, going for a stroll, or just hanging out at home, sitting on the deck, looking at the stars! One thing about me is that I am an animal lover, and because of this, I am also vegan now for over 3 years. It's hard to find others who share this decision here in the Midwest! I am not one of those crazy people, but I don't want animals to suffer just so I can eat something that's not good for me anyway! As far as music goes, I really like all kinds, though not really into the heavy rap degrading women-what's the point? At this point in my life, I was hoping I would be settled down with a family, and I was in a relationship before where I thought that would be the case, but clearly I am here, so it wasn't! Haha I like to laugh, and I like to be with friends and family. I am empathetic and caring, and would like to meet people who are the same. I also have ferrets whom I love-they are like my kids-they make me smile/laugh every day! :) Oh, and I love roller coasters! :) I'm willing to try MOST anything once...ha. I get the labels "free spirit", "hippie", "nerd" and "goofy" a lot, so I guess you can say I'm a little offbeat :-). I'm a laid back person most of the time, usually don't sweat the small stuff. I do get pretty passionate about things I care about though, like environmental stewardship, nonviolence, and egalitarianism.
I'm very much into the arts: I've been in choirs and dance classes for as long as I can remember. I enjoy comedy performances as well, currently I belong to an improv troupe and perform onstage with fellow improvisers.
Right now I'm a substitute teacher with plans to work from home as an online instructor or course developer. My dream job though is to work full time at my nonprofit animation company, which provides animation that people of all ages can enjoy, while offering art students & independent animators an outlet to showcase their talent to the animation industry. That dream probably won't materialize for a while though, so I'm fine with slowly building-up my company for now and making it my semi-retirement plan much later on.
I am a Christian, which to me means seeing life as a daily blessing and living each day to the fullest, for we only have one chance at living and many lose that chance everyday. I keep things simple when it comes to my beliefs: love God & follow the Golden Rule. I've taken a spiritual approach to Christianity as opposed to a religious one, so I'm not affiliated with any denomination nor belong to any congregation.
Finally, as part of a college course I took a Myers-Brigg test and found out I was an INFP (or a "Healer" if you're more familiar with the Keirsey Temperament Sorter): amazingly its personality description has me pegged to the tee.

I want to be interacting and helping. I love family, Italians live for it, oh by the way, , I am Sicilian. My parents immigrated here in the 60's, so I am first generation Sicilian. I can speak Spanish and Italian. I feel at this time in my life, I really crave that "spirit" mate - just made that up. I'm ready for love and I know, it doesn't come easy, but work doesn't scare me. As a matter of fact, isn't that life...hardships in life are our greatest teachers.
I am not a drinker - never have been. If you know anything about Italian culture, family is everything. So that is very much a part of who I am, BUT, I have had to fight for my independence from that same Italian culture. It is very restrictive and constrictive. I have been the "rebel" of the family, but only in the sense of wanting to come into my own - a birth right, as far as I'm concerned. So there exists a little feminist in me. I've just wanted to be happy in life and I've had to fight for it. I do love to cook, but I don't want it to be my duty. I want a partner in LIFE not a co worker. So, I'll cook whenever i can, but you should be able to cook as well and clean. Everyone participates in the upkeep. I love to be home and let's face it, home is where the heart is and most people are home most of the time, but I definitely want "us" time away from the home on a regular basis. They say that is key to sucessful long term relationships. Not materialistic at all, as a matter of fact, I think less is more.
In my spare time I like to see movies, go to parks and have picnicks & lay on the grass - be with nature. Love spending time with animals. Love to watch documentaries. More interested in the discovery channel types. Restaurants are nice once in a while. I do LOVE music and LOVE to dance. I like to keep researching and learning in the subjects of philosophy, health, empowerment. Like to exercise. I suppose some travel would be nice...see something we've never seen, do something we've never done, like scuba diving for example. Used to really be into skiing. Still love it ...you know a weekend in Vermont. I do love the 4 seasons - winter, spring, summer & fall. One of the advantages of NY. Really, I know, the best things in life are free. Simple pleasures...showers make me happy, and there's nothing a bear hug and some chocolate can't fix.
