I have been a vegetarian for quite a while, first because I felt it was a healthier lifestyle,(although technically, one could eat nothing but chocolate chip cookies and still be a vegetarian) and now it is more because I have an appreciation for animals and life in general. However, I am not an activist, nor is my dog a vegetarian. Speaking of which,I love dogs and if you do too that would be a good thing, given that mine will love you whether you want him to or not. I prefer new age music, but listen to a variety; sportstalk radio or NPR is my station of choice. I can discuss most pro sports, but just don't get boxing or NASCAR. I love all things Michigan -- lighthouses, pine forests, the Great Lakes, casual bird- and nature-watching. I'm planning a move this year to the area around Ann Arbor/Monroe to be closer to my family. I'm 5'4", 150 lbs., brown hair, brown eyes, glasses.
At age 60 in this economy, it's hard to find employment of any kind, so I am not working at, shall we say, my ideal job. I clean offices part-time, and have done so for 2 1/2 years. I'd rather do office work, but without top-notch computer skills (I'm self-taught), there's not a lot out there.
My work with animals keeps me close to home, so if you like to travel....well, sorry, I can't manage more than a day trip or overnighter. Also, I don't like to fly, although if you offered me a ticket to Paris someday, I just might take you up on it.
I do like working around the house, although I'm better at housekeeping (kinda) and gardening and organizing than at fixing things, so it would be great if you had handyman skills. I also like stopping at garage sales. I don't buy a lot, but it's fun to see what's out there.

I'm an independent secondary school teacher, and though I greatly enjoy what I do (engaging youthful minds), that's not the whole of who I am. My primary passion is simply thinking about stuff, all manner of stuff, from the prosaic (why is that first potato chip so much better than all the others?) to the philosophical (what is this incredibly curious thing we call consciousness?). I'm drawn to the scientific outlook (evolutionary psychology is a current interest), and how things work fascinate me. Still, I've discovered a real need to feel deeply, even viscerally, about things, things that I don't often understand: some sculpture (...but long to touch it!), some architecture, some music evokes such feelings, for example, and films that move me are definitely preferable to comedies (though "Curb Your Enthusiasm" ought not be missed!) Physical activity (sports, working outdoors, handyman stuff, and so on) is also critical to my sense of well-being...and if I may say, friends find me both funny and interesting....

I've been told that while I'm definitely not high maintenance, I'm "weird maintenance". What exactly that meant, I'm not 100% sure... I can say, though, that I like to be comfortable. I'd much rather be comfortable than have the newest, coolest outfit in the room. I used to be really shy but am told that I'm an extrovert now. While I like to go out occasionally, I'm definitely over the bar scene. I like to go out to restaurants, but I'm more interested in the person I'm going with.
