I’ve been a vegetarian of one kind or another (unfortunately, the junk food kind lately) for 26 years, so I look younger than my age, and I’m in good medical condition. I don’t work out in a gym, but I try to get in 15 or 20 minutes of vigorous exercise several times a week. I enjoy long walks and bike rides when possible. I love dancing, but I’m way out of practice. I like cats more than dogs, but dogs don’t care about that and make me love them anyway when we’ve had them as pets. My political sympathies are decidedly liberal.
Among the careers I've pursued and jobs I've held are concert organist, naval aviator, ballroom dance instructor, systems analyst, corporate tax paralegal, security guard, office automation temp, regional tech support specialist, and over-the-road trucker. I've retired from full-time employment twice, but I'm still working part time in tech support for a highly respected college.
I don’t have a fat bank account or an investment portfolio. I live reasonably well on my part time earnings and my Social Security pension. I’m not interested in being supported by a spouse or anyone else. I can certainly support my partner if she doesn’t desire a lavish lifestyle and doesn't care much about seeing the world; otherwise, she will need resources of her own.
My wife/lover won't lose her freedom; she'll gain a devoted husband/lover who will encourage her to come and go freely and to be her own person. She won't have to be burdened by housework. I can clean house, wash and iron clothes, shop for groceries, cook (well, I'm improving) and wash dishes. And I NEVER leave the toilet seat up!
Some of my favorite things: Beautiful sunsets. A clear night sky in the country with so many more stars visible. Hiking through the woods. Driving around the country on two-lane highways to see the scenery and towns and people up close. Thunderstorms seen from the balcony of a high-rise (or a house on a hill). Reading a good book beside a crackling fireplace. Slow dancing to romantic music with lyrics you can actually understand. Holding hands in public. Romantic movies. Tear-jerkers. Wilderness canoe trips. Meeting old friends. Holiday get-togethers with family. Making people laugh. Hiding love notes for the woman I love to find and read. Making love (with emphasis on that last word).

I am a vegan, mostly for ethical reasons and for health. I haven't eaten any meat for about 8 years. I don't miss it at all. Music is a big part of my life. I have seen R.E.M. about 25 times. And the Grateful Dead (with Jerry) 15 times. Other bands/singers I like are Vic Chesnutt, Neil Young, Ray LaMontagne, and Fleet Foxes, among others. I love to travel. One of my favorite places to visit is Athens, GA. Everyone there is very friendly and almost every restaurant has vegetarian/vegan options, which is rare in the suburbs of Chicago. I also love the foliage and mountains of the south - it's beautiful. I could also go to a beach anyday. I'm going to school online through Full Sail University for Graphic Design. I got a little late start, but now only have a little over a year to go. I also work part time at a camera store/photo lab. On my way back from India, I swung through Scotland for the G8 protests, where I helped run a convergence space for a month+. Summer '06 I recieved a grant to take a Permaculture design cert course, build a biodiesel processor, and organize a biodiesel coop. Civil Disobedience is the best hope for saving the world. I am a vibrant, healthy, fun, smart woman living in downtown Chicago. I work downtown as well. I enjoy life. I recently am experiencing the raw foodist coming off ground of being vegan. I do not know if going completely raw is for me, however, I try to eat raw as much as I can, but certainly know that vegan for me brings me more happiness because it is not as restrictive. Health-wise, well, that is why I am on the journey I am. I want to be as healthy as I can for as I get older, I believe "one can fight aging" to a certain degree if one "feeds" themselves the right "food" and all those "nutrients" go together to balance out to make a better "me", but as we all know being on this site, it takes more than being a vegetarian, vegan or raw foodist to experience all the fruits of life. I write poetry, which to my mind is anything that is 1 to 2 pages long, from humorous to dark and everything in between. Writing really frees my mind and makes a difficult experience (like unexpectedly landing in a car repair shop all day)into something rich and curious. I'm very serious and disciplined about it. However I DO have fun with it, taking it out into the mainstream writing pieces for benefits, art shows, literary affairs, or festivals of any kind. I'll wear costumes and make a play day of it! Poetry can be very isolating and dour stuff, so I like to bring it into the here and now,and not take myself so seriously. LIFE IS TOO SHORT! I also love biking and hiking (hiking in all seasons) and recently my ankles have gotten pretty strong from roller blading! hah! My building- I enjoy the community I've built here, and feel great when I have to knock on someones door and borrow an onion or extra chairs -lent my sander to the first floor guy last week, and I borrowed his tripod the week before...it's a great small town!

I had a successful career as a Software Sales Rep, but started my own company in the clean-tech and alternative energy space a few years ago. My job has given me the chance to see some interesting places and I am thankful for the freedom to set my own hours. I enjoy dining out, especially Indian and Italian restaurants, watching movies, reading etc. but don't mind staying home and cooking or enjoying some relaxing music when I have the time. When I'm not working, I am either jogging, spending time with a friend over dinner or a drink, maybe babysitting my niece, watching a movie, doing some volunteer work, visiting my family or doing some household duties - my yard keeps me busy in the summer. I think I am open minded. I love new experiences. People say I am funny & smart. I am honest almost to a fault. I'm constantly trying to achieve perfection. I know it's impossible, but I like the challenge. Becoming a vegan was a step towards that goal. Incorporating more live foods into my diet is the next step. When I am not thinking of self & world improvement, I try to relax by reading a book (my favorite author is John Grisham),watching a movie, listening to music (favorite of all time? Prince), & playing video games (anything with a good story). You know what? I just realized how crazy I feel trying to describe myself. Too many little things make up who I am. The way to see the real me? Just ask me what you want to know. Update: I recently relocated to the Chicago area. Well I haven't finished relocating actually, but I am here nonetheless.
