I much prefer to save these sorts of things for in person communication, but I can certainly see how some description is necessary to get things rolling. I've been a vegetarian since I was 15 and a vegan for almost a decade now. My motivation for both those changes was my concern for animal welfare, particularly my strong ethical objection to taking life. My life choices can often be directed by such ethical concerns and I can't see myself taking a career path that doesn't address injustices in the world in some manner. That doesn't mean I don't make room for fun though. I suppose my choices of diversion tend more to the nerdy side (my field of studies was in physics, but I'm probably a bit more of a bookish nerd than a computer nerd), but I'm up for trying anything that doesn't go against my moral values and I always like to broaden my scope of interests.
I'm a practising Catholic, so that does inform my aforementioned moral values, although the fact that I'm a vegan should probably tell you that I arrive at my own conclusions and don't just take those handed to me by authority. I tend to be on the liberal / socialist side politically, but that doesn't mean I fall in line on every issue. I don't think these are the most important things to base a relationship off of, but I figure I should put it out there, so people who can't stand such perspectives can be warned.
Having a solid relationship is important to me. I don't mind starting off with casual dates and, in fact, that seems like the best way to begin things, but with any date comes the hope of developing a long term relationship that would eventually lead to marriage. Obviously, that deep a connection can't be guaranteed from the start and if it winds up being just one date or a few that's okay with me. I don't have any expectations of jumping to a very serious relationship quickly, but if it became clear that no serious relationship would ever come of the dates, I couldn't remain in a situation like that.
What else? I'm an avid tea fan. Coffee drinkers need not apply. Just kidding, but I will try to convert you to the leaf side. I'm a little bit obsessed with Dostoevsky and Russian lit in general. The Brothers Karamazov is my favorite book. I like traveling although I honestly haven't done much before this past year. I spent a few months in Bethlehem (Palestine, not Pennsylvania) this year and plan to go back some day.

I'm an animal lover (work with animals)and hope you are too! After all, isn't that a great reason to be vegetarian? I also love reading, nature, politics (left-leaning), NPR-PBS, and have a wicked sense of humor. I have recently returned to my Catholic roots. I prefer new age music, but listen to a variety; sportstalk radio or NPR is my station of choice. I can discuss most pro sports, but just don't get boxing or NASCAR. I love all things Michigan -- lighthouses, pine forests, the Great Lakes, casual bird- and nature-watching. I'm planning a move this year to the area around Ann Arbor/Monroe to be closer to my family. I'm 5'4", 150 lbs., brown hair, brown eyes, glasses.
At age 60 in this economy, it's hard to find employment of any kind, so I am not working at, shall we say, my ideal job. I clean offices part-time, and have done so for 2 1/2 years. I'd rather do office work, but without top-notch computer skills (I'm self-taught), there's not a lot out there.
My work with animals keeps me close to home, so if you like to travel....well, sorry, I can't manage more than a day trip or overnighter. Also, I don't like to fly, although if you offered me a ticket to Paris someday, I just might take you up on it.
I do like working around the house, although I'm better at housekeeping (kinda) and gardening and organizing than at fixing things, so it would be great if you had handyman skills. I also like stopping at garage sales. I don't buy a lot, but it's fun to see what's out there.
